War is about much more than pride. Using pride to determine the fate of thousands of American troops is so ignorant I don't really know how to express it. Give me a break! The concept known as facts comes into play. At some point this country has to realize the Iraqis will have to put Iraq in order and we don't have the resources to stay indefinitely. Staying longer will merely sacrifice more American lives for no benefit. Who gives a flip about pride? American pride and standing in the world have been destroyed by the Iraq disaster and staying forever won't change that. Regarding "confidence", it was Bush's confidence that got us into Iraq to start with. Facts, logic and reason are 1000 times more valuable than pride and (false) confidence when it comes to being president.

Secondly, Obama did not say he would withdraw troops "immediately". What he HAS said is that a drawdown would begin in short order and even then he has hedged a few times.

Again technically you are right, and I should have been more clear. Germany declared on the U.S. prior to entry into combat against them.

It isn't as the post I was referring to stated that we just took them on. They had declared war on us before we started fighting them. Which is the larger point that I was trying to make.

I guess it's my own fault for not being more clear.

yeah so when Franchiseblade said before our entry (even though I disagree on the putting germany's declaration before ours when they both came on the 11th) he was totally wrong.

Can anyone answer why Obama is unwilling to meet with Petraeus?

How can he LEAD the military if he is afraid/unwilling to meet with its leaders? Makes no sense to me.

I wasn't totally wrong. I was technically wrong. Given the conversation and the point I was trying to refute, what I said makes perfect sense even if it wasn't clear what I meant in my original post.

That isn't the U.S. entering into combat. That is some ambush shooting, and orders to defend ourselves.

Though I didn't know we had 11 casualties at that point. I knew about the attacks, but didn't know what the casualties were. I'll admit that, and I should have known.

I guess I'm missing something here. Rimrocker explained the timeline. What does any of this have to do with Senator Obama and Iraq? Are we fighting WWII again?

    Impeach Bush.

I consider an order of a president to shoot on sight of any German ship to mean we are at combat.

President Obama will choose the military officers he deems appropriate to meet with because that's what presidents do thank you very much!

That he is not currently the leader of the U.S. military might have something to do with it. Petraeus has a job to do and he's doing it well. What would Obama have to discuss with him, exactly?

McCain campaign is in a dilemma due to the above ad. Let's see if McCain will be true to his word.

Updated: Lieberman & Graham Serve on Policy Board of Advisors for an Anti-Obama 527
    by Steven R
Sun May 25, 2008 at 12:23:19 PM PDT

This runs directly contradictory to Senator John McCain's policy to remove any persons from his campaign who work openly with or for any 527 Organizations.

Vets for Freedom Policy Board of Advisors
    Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT), Honorary
    Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Honorary

This is a Smear Group using an Injured Vet openly in a slime commercial accusing Barack Obama directly of not meeting with veterans while wanting to meet with people who "Hate" America.

Lieberman was our VP candidate in 2000? Unbelievable. Could Gore have possibly made a worse choice?
