Someone told you that they are voting for Obama due to white guilt? For what it's worth, the primary polls have shown the opposite. In the states where the question was asked about whether the candidate's race mattered, Hillary outperformed amongst the subgroups that said yes. And given that you'd expect racist people to at least not admit it, that says a lot.
Exit polls in several states in the primary showed anywhere from 6 to 9% of voters admitted race played a part in their decision. Conventional wisdom says that that number will be higher in the general; anywhere from 15 to 20%. You cannot discount that race will play some type of role in this election. That's why polls are meaningless. We will never know if this little experiment will work until the votes are counted.
Even then we won't truly know. The American public could vote against Democratic policies and not necessarily against Obama's race.
