Maybe not,but I'm sure he would have asked for the 24th pick and chosen Lowry in addition to having Battier on the team.

Only problem is Shane is a Dukie. And 90% of the population hates Dukies out of jealousy. :D

Shane should run for mayor of Houston one day and I would vote for him.

You can't help but to appreciate a guy like Shane, who will fight a dude tooth and nail even when he knows he is overmatched. I see the president is truly a fan of the sport in it's truest essence and not just the highlight reel.

Seriously, Les Alexander needs to watch out and make sure Obama keeps his grubby hands to himself and not steal Battier (or Morey) from his team.
We know he already stole Kumar from House and will not stop depriving viewer of TV watching fun until somebody stands up to his ass.

Battier Got a Text from the President

Didn't see it posted, and I know, it's RealGM but I think it's pretty cool.

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59185/20090514/battier_receives_text_from_obama/

Rockets forward Shane Battier received a text message from President Barack Obama after the team's Game 4 win over the Lakers.

According to a Houston television station, Obama sent Battier the message through Reggie Love, one of the president's aides and a former teammate of Battier's at Duke.

"Through Reggie, he sent me a message that said good job leading the guys in the face of adversity," Battier told FOX 26 Sports. "It was pretty cool. Not your garden variety text message.

"It's great that we have a sports fanatic in the White House who appreciates competition. For the leader of the free world to acknowledge your leadership, it's pretty cool."

it's old, but still cool. Seriously, Battier's such a ridiculous defensive force for Houston. I really think he's the heart and soul of the Rockets.

Good for Battier, but its just good PR on the President's part. Sports fans are notorious for not following politics and this kind of thing is done to get their support for policies they have no clue about ;)

Its similar to that barackatoligy crap espn was soaking up for what seemed like weeks. Useful idiots eat it up like pancakes!

    it's not PR.

Obama loves basketball dude. He played it all his life and they Tivo games for him and he watches what he can when he has time

Plus Reggie Love is a personal friend of Battiers, there's no question Prez watched this game.
