I don't know what NASA you are talking about, but there is plenty of major concern over cost and significant pessimism about the ability to overcome it at the NASA I recently left. Nevermind the massive engineering disaster that is the Cx architecture.
lol no. it was however the nasa of about 6 months ago. The apollo program is really a very special case. So many things converged at the right time - it's mind boggling.
http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/research/4237347.html?page=2 Obama releases a space proposal: Barack Obama a.) "Believes that the United States needs a strong space program to help maintain its superiority not only in space, but also here on earth in the realms of education, technology, and national security." b.) On new spacecraft: "The retirement of the Space Shuttle in 2010 will leave the United States without manned spaceflight capability until the introduction of the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) carried by the Ares I Launch Vehicle. As president, Obama will support the development of this vital new platform to ensure that the United States' reliance on foreign space capabilities is limited to the minimum possible time period. The CEV will be the backbone of future missions, and is being designed with technology that is already proven and available." c.) Finish the International Space Station. d.) On the continuation of unmanned exploration: "Barack Obama is committed to a bold array of robotic missions that will expand our knowledge of the solar system and lay the foundations for further manned exploration." e.) "As president, Obama will ensure that NASA has the funding necessary to play its part in the fight against global climate change." f.) On scientific research: "In the past, government funding for scientific research has yielded innovations that have improved the landscape of American life, technologies like the Internet, digital photography, bar codes, Global Positioning System technology, laser surgery, and chemotherapy. Today, we face a new set of challenges, yet the United States is losing its scientific dominance. Over the last three decades, federal funding for the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences has declined at a time when other countries are substantially increasing their own research budgets. Barack Obama believes federally funded scientific research should play an important role in advancing science and technology in the classroom and in the lab. He will work to diversify the makeup of the scientific community and provide federal research programs a much- needed infusion of funds." g.) "Orbiting surveillance satellites provide a vital way to ensure compliance with non-proliferation treaties and monitor emerging threats. For example, nuclear facility construction in North Korea and Iran can be closely monitored from above without the challenges faced by weapons inspectors on the ground. Satellites can be further used in the effort to secure loose nuclear weapons and materials around the world, an effort which Barack Obama has promoted aggressively in the U.S. Senate." h.) "Does not support the stationing of any weapons in space. He believes the international community must address the issue of space weaponization head-on and enter into a serious dialogue with Russia, China and other nations to stop this slow slide into a new battlefield." (Obama space proposals added January 23, 2008.)
Sounds pretty good to me, give or take b and c. I would especially jetison c. Gee, is he still evil incarnate for NASA?
I do not see the moon or Mars mentioned, at least in what appears here, but I could be missing it... The most specific point involves unmanned missions.
That's the CEV, which is now ORION. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_(spacecraft)#Possibilities_for_future_CEV_development
Good point. I heard that his family's former CPA took a vacation to Houston and while at the Space Center, the guy took a dump in a public toilet and ... did not flush. So basically, it's easy to conclude that Obama does not support flushing, even for #2. I mean he has associated with people who embody that belief -- same thing. How can we put a person like that in the Whitehouse?
I'd rather talk about his strong support for reparations, why he was sworn into the Senate on the Koran and why he turns his back on the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. May as well also mention the 3 wives he has hiding in Kenya who won't come out until after the election.
^Not to mention the fact that one of the purple hearts he received in Vietnam was only for a minor injury.
