this is coming from a soldier, who has spent 2 years in iraq and is currently about to go again. No i don't know about politics but i do know what it is like to be in the middle of a war. I do know what it is like to lose best friends.... i do not care who is the president and as long as we get out of iraq. for those of you who, think war is the best option right now, should go over there and fight the war yourself and with all your buddies and after a couple of them die then come back and speak of what you want, but until then shut your mouth, and let me and my friends do the fighting for you. while you sit at home and enjoy your precious 9-5 jobs and get to watch your houston sports teams on a nightly basis. Remember, the people that have gone out there for you, your neighbor and your freakin sister.

Sorry real sensitive subject cause of people that take advantage of what isn't rightfully theres cause everone one else fights a war and dies so you are safe

Regardless of your or our political leanings, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your sacrifices.

Thank you, all soldiers want from people is to feel appreciated for the sacrafices we have to make. Yes we signed up for it voluntarily but if I don't do it or anyone else our country wouldn't be the great place it is today. anyone who reads this just think of the hardships soldiers go through on a daily basis. losing their wives, family, friends. everday. 80% divorce rate among army soldiers now days from this war. think about you being stuck in the middle of a war and before you go outside of the wire, you have things on your mind such as your marriage, your son being in the hospital sick. No way you can help as a father. Just appreciate soldiers sacrafice cause we surely don't get the credit we deserve.

OK, now I remember what I was going to say. Does anyone really listen to Amir Taheri anymore (the author of the article)? The guy has been caught in several fabrications of quotes in the past. I know; I know. You're going to say that when you can't address the issues, and resort to questioning the author/source, then you're acting like Bush supporters. blah blah blah. I still don't give Taheri any credit anymore. He's the megolomaniac here, not Obama.

Besides, if I were either candidate, I wouldn't want a lame duck president to negotiate a 2-3yr war policy on a failed, unjust war. Also, if I actually wanted to end the war as quick as possible and get OUR TROOPS HOME, I for damn sure wouldn't want President Bush signing anything that keeps them there for 3 more years.

And to say that either candidate is not a potential president when they are there is stupid. Should they visit, view and discuss as out-going Senators? It's a r****ded assumption!

Teej will quote the law and treason, but what about starting the war in the first place, and law and treason?

heyp, this is way too logical. Please go back to posting about basketball. You need to have a highly emotional, partisan, fact-defying position to post in this forum.

Thank you for your service and for voicing your opinion on the matter. I hate it when one veteran tries to speak for all soldiers (another thread that T_J posted had a video of an injured soldier stating "calling the Iraq war a waste is an insult to the soldiers" and saying that he wouldn't vote for Obama because of this). I'm also sorry about the friends that you've lost. I hope we can get out of Iraq soon and you can get back to a relatively normal life.

    Ah! I thought I remembered the name…

    Via TPM –

Taheri was the guy who back in 2006 fabricated the story that the Iranian government was requiring Jewish citizens to wear yellow badges to identify them as such. That story, which also ran in the Post, was completely discredited.

How does it make you feel that Obama is trying to prolong your fellow troops' stay in Iraq so that he can selfishly take credit for a withdrawal? Does that not disgust you?

Instead of graciously thanking XBL like many other posters have done, T_J tries to score points by using him as an Obama scapegoat.

    TELLING.

for next time. the way these threads work is this:

    1. Thread started and title saying "Obama [fill in something that sounds absolutely and undeniably fact based and implies something bad]"

    2. First post has a combination of:

    a) Opinion piece written by someone clearly highly biased and written in a manner as if the opinion was fact.

    b) The opinion piece either is from a "reputable" source already, from a "non-reputable" source but somehow linking back to a "reputable" source, or just completely from a "non-reputable" source - which is either ok, or not okay and labeled a joke, depending on whose side your on.

    c) Either before the cited piece, or after, anywhere from 3-7 lines of response from thread starter who is shocked and amazed that everything in the opinion piece is so true and unbelievable.

    3. Multiple posts pointing out the stupidity of the article, thread starter and thread.

    4. A random argument. This is always indirectly related to the thread, but a little off base, too. It will sustain the thread for at least 3 or 4 pages.

    5. Anywhere from 1 minute to a few days after the thread is started, responses more clearly showing why the thread is stupid and the original piece is in no way close to reality.

    6. Sometime around points 4 or 5 in the system another thread of a similar nature has already been started.

    See here for examples: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/search.php?searchid=107900
