Media Matters has a good write up on this.

    http://mediamatters.org/columns/200901170003?f=h_top

Basically, the right wing punditry and the idiots on Fox and Friends have been relying on an article from a UK paper that basically compared the guestimated total cost of the Obama inauguration (security and cleanup included) to the money Bush raised in 2005, which was $42 million, which doesn't include the security and cleanup.

So they take the potential Obama total and compare it to Bush's partial and say "oh my god, it's 4 times as much, how dare he!"

It turns out that in a story about Obama's fundraising for the inauguration, the New York Times mentioned that the total taxpayer cost for Bush's inauguration was $115 MILLION.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/06/us/politics/06donors.html

Now you combine that with Bush's $42 million in fundraiser money and you get a total of $157 million.

Since when does telling the truth constitutes being labeled a racist? Report me all you want, but you lefties are the ones who are the real intolerant bigots, and definitely lacking a sense of humor.

If you don't believe me on this, go to any top universities in this country and try to have a conservative view, the faculty and the student body will tared and feathered you so fast, you'll think twice about going to class the next day.

Your playbook is so lame, anyone who disagrees with you and tells the truth is a racist!

You didn't address the reason I called you out. You stated that all blacks are politically clueless and are incapable in the political process. Tell me how that's not bigoted.

You're a troll. I've stated numerous times that I respect the opinions of conservatives, liberals, libertarians, etc. so long as they are capable of intelligently debating their opinions. Having an informed opinion makes you dangerous. Having an uninformed one makes you an imbecile.

And you say that my playbook is lame? Yours is the same old song and dance; call all liberals "socialists," refer to Barack Obama as the "Messiah," and "Anti-Christ," and claiming to support "the land [you] love," whilst being ignorant of the fact that America is not the country you see it as. Rather, it's a mix of many different races, beliefs, ideologies, and backgrounds. You have to accept that if you want people to ever think that somebody as dumb as you doesn't deserve to have a voice.

Nice knowing you bigtexxx, keep up the good fight, I have a busy medical practice to run, I am wasting my time here in this God fosaken forum!

BTW, Joseph Cao is the first Vietnamese-American congressman from Louisana, how about throwing him a party using some of the Inauguration money?

    Weslinder/Refman 2012 T-shirts anyone? :p

I like bigtexxx & basso too. They get me energized, while people like Refman & weslinder deliver messages in a way that can attract the moderate/independent vote. esteban's posts are too insulting and to combative for me.

they don't read articles before they post. anyway, had he read the artcile he would know that the issue isn't even the money because its mostly donated, its who is donating. $7MM coming from walls street individuals. Some of them who's firms got bailout money.

I guess now that Barrack is president we are going to examine everyone who donates to him. The article also points out that individuals were capped at donating $50K while Bush's cap was $250K.

maybe joseph cao can fundraise tens of millions of dollars and have hundreds of thousands (i mean he's not potus so i won't ask for 2 million) people from around the world come to DC for a weekend. if that happened, im sure the government would provide adequate security and other services which would result in millions being spent.

well, all we need is another card player. esteban has been on the black politcians since he started posting, apparently he's in line with the old playbook, black politicians get a bunch of positive press from the liberal media unfairly.

Most welfare and food stamps go to senior citizens. It isn't about people who are too lazy to work. That is they myth people have put out there, but it isn't the truth. Most welfare also goes toward medical expenses. Luckily Obama has a plan to help improve health care, so that should actually cut down on those costs.

He embodies the American dream, because he comes from a working class family, worked hard to be able to get into Harvard, worked hard to become President of the Harvard Law review, gave up high paying jobs to do community service, worked his way up to where he is now.

Unlike Bush who came from a wealthy privileged family, was the grandson of a Senator, and son of a President with all the connections in the world.

Obama had to work his way to get everything he has gotten, and rise to the top position in the country. It wasn't a matter of connections that he already had.

I was going to say exactly this. How the heck does a guy claim that because a group of voters votes one guy they must be clueless.

Esteban has also talked about Cao's inauguration and spending money on it. If that's what he wants, he should petition Bush, who approved the money to be spent on Obama's inauguration.

This is just flat wrong. Go to any college campus and you will find a chapter of the Young Republicans. It is a minority view, as young people tend to be more liberal than older people...but to say it isn't there is just absurd.
