Although I know it costs money and you don't want it to have the apperance of just being a kegger or something like that, but this comment made me laugh:

"Carole Florman, spokeswoman for the joint congressional committee on inaugural ceremonies, told the New York Daily News, which estimated the cost at $160m: "We're always very budget conscious. But we're sending a message to the entire world about our peaceful transition of power, and you don't want it to look like a schlock affair. It needs to be appropriate to the magnitude of events that it is."

 

just think how many people it will put to work, great job obama, plus on serious note, some is coming from private funding, and lastly, its going to also be an historic amount of people.

It's just all part of the Party Planners bailout.

Most of those dollars are going to American small businesses. Caterers, event staff, craftsmen , tradesmen, liquor distributors. They will pay tax on it and spend the money they make. It will be an event that reinforces the American dream and re-energizes the American people.

Your breathless concern is, as always, laughable.

Some things seem over the top (Springstein, Beyonce, etc.), but hard to imagine how all of that costs $150 million. Before deciding if the money is a waste you kind of have to know what it's being used for, whose getting it, etc.

Certainly, though, I'd agree that it doesn't seem to make sense that Federal money is being spent on items that will predominantly only help the local economy.

 

Props to Barack for stimulating the economy -- sometimes you have to spend money to make money. When 3 million people are coming to town you need to use an appropriate amount of funds for security/ etc.

By the way, I was handed a flyer for the "Inauguration Party" on January 20, 2009 held by the Deja Vu Showgirls gentlemens clubs at their Southern California locations. There will be "dance specials" at these events.

The back of the flyer advertises one of their other events, the "Pajama Party" to be held a couple weeks later, with "pillow fights."

These points are worth highlighting. I'd also like to know if people like Bruce are accepting money for their performances. In general, would just like to see the breakdown.

Also would like to know the attendance for Bush's inauguration. I remember the thrown produce, (which was not cool), related to the odd way he won in 2000.
