a 9mm can go through just as many sheetrock panels as can a rifle. Try again.

Can I borrow your time machine? I would like to go back to 1992 and buy some guns at those prices.

thanks for laying out YOUR criteria of how I should defend myself and my family.

have you ever fired a rifle? or a shotgun?

I don't own assault rifles for home defense.....I really do not know anyone that does.

people NEED a 12 gauge to protect their home? LOL!!!!

dude, I'm not going dove hunting, I'm trying to kill an intruder. My Glock 9mm is just as effective. And as far as assault rifles(which I'm still trying to understand why anyone would use an assault rifle for home defense) what calibur are you firing that will penetrate a body/wood/brick.......more brick/more wood/ and then another body?....and thats if you play your cards right...

Clinton's so-called "Assault Weapon Ban" was by his own admission, one of his biggest mistakes as president.

I also don't seem to recall it making the country significantly safer. The legislation was poorly written, and polarized a significant portion of voters.

Who can it possibly benefit other than the Republican Party?

    I don't see it happening.

I swear, I’m beginning to think Obama is a gun industry deep cover mole.

When the guy was elected, my sales increased by tenfold. In the last couple of weeks, sales have returned to about normal. Then, in the last couple of days following these comments, my business has taken off again.

Barak Obama is the best thing to happen to the gun industry ever. This is going to be a banner sales year. Invest in gun-related stocks and securites now.

How does this prohibition fit with drug and gambling prohibitions? Won't people get guns anyways? Won't there be more organized crime selling the guns.

Just asking. I'm for banning these guys and keeping casinos out of Texas.

And in related news, there has been a wave of gang shootings in Calgary and Vancouver in recent years. It’s escalated in Vancouver recently and there have been 18 shootings and 8 fatalities in the last month alone. (Update: 2 more were killed and 2 were injured in shootings yesterday.)

    http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2009/03/04/bc-tuesday-night-shootings.html

The tie in to this topic is that the police have reported that 50% of the guns used in these crimes were illegally smuggled into Canada from the US.

Here in Calgary police are reporting an increase in guns smuggled in from the US.
I’ve heard it argued here that Canada has a different culture and that’s why there aren’t as many gun crimes here, but I think the above evidence suggests that our criminals will gravitate towards using guns if they can get their hands on them, and that they have a great deal of difficulty getting them in Canada as they have to go to the trouble and expense of smuggling them across an international border. I think the lesson is, if you reduce access to guns, particularly handguns, you will reduce gun crimes.

If you reduce access to baseball bats, you will reduce baseball bat crimes.

I love how it called a gun crime instead of murder or assault.

    GUN CRIME!!

    ONOES!

HEY!!! if we reduce the number of cars we can reduce car crime.

We could apply the same logic to abortion clinics... right?

Wait!! They buy guns with money so lets reduce the amount of wealth in our country and BAM!!! Less gun crime.

No No.... I KNOW!!! Guns use bullets and bullets have gun powder and gun powder was invented by the Chinese... so lets attack China.

Do you have a problem with baseball bat crimes where you live? Assuming that’s what you’re saying, then yes, you should restrict the use of baseball bats. That’s why you make something a restricted weapon. Only a complete idiot would say that there aren't any weapons that should be restricted, of course. If you place strict restrictions on handguns, for example, then the bad guys will have trouble getting their hands on them, and will commit fewer crimes with them. Apparently in your neighbourhood there is an epidemic of people beating other people up with baseball bats, and in that case maybe you should not allow people to walk around carrying them, or perhaps even ban them from the trailer park.

Law-abiding, responsible citizens do not and should not need to ask anyone's permission or approval to engage in a peaceful activity. Gun ownership, by itself, harms no other person and cannot morally justify criminal penalties.

America's founders fought the Revolutionary War to throw off British tyranny. Most of the revolutionaries owned and used their own guns in that war. After the war, in 1789, the 13 American States adopted the Constitution, creating the federal government. Before ratifying the Constitution, the people demanded a Bill of Rights to prevent our government from depriving them of their liberties as the British had done.

One of the most important protections we have against government tyranny is that we are presumed innocent of any crime until proven guilty, before a jury, in a proper trial.

Gun control advocates would declare all gun owners guilty without trial, simply for owning guns, even though millions of them have never used their guns to harm another person. Such blanket condemnation is immoral, unfair and contrary to the principles on which America was founded.

I am showing that your entire argument which concluded with that finding is total BS.

Let me rewrite that first paragraph for you.

“Law-abiding, responsible citizens do not and should not need to ask anyone's permission or approval to engage in a peaceful activity. Nuclear weapon ownership, by itself, harms no other person and cannot morally justify criminal penalties.”

Now, does this make any sense to you?

The Constitution also allowed for legal slavery. Thankfully the US later thought better of its ways and amended the constitution.

    No.
