It's definitely possible. I think janitorial services is a good example of a possible private company that might bid for a government contract and pay their workers minimum wage. Even then, maybe they aren't even getting paid more than $9 and now in the future any new contracts will guarantee them at least $10.10.

That's not true at all. There are tons of federal workers paid at the minimum wage.

Janitors, cafeteria workers, street/sidewalk cleanup, parking attendants, etc.. And most of that work is outsourced to contractors. Walk into a large federal workplace like a VA hospital or a military base and you'll find tons of people working at the minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs in federal workplaces are almost all contracted at that so this change has a massive impact.

Obama looks so desperate with this move. Even CNN is now clowning his unfulfilled promises from last year's state of the union, so now Obama is hurriedly trying to show that he can do something, no matter how small it is like this federal govt contractor deal (new contracts only)

This random website says there are 16,000 federal workers (direct and contract) who work for less than $10.10 right now: http://online.wsj.com/news/articles...0001424052702304007504579347652759111902.html

That's not going to move the GDP or anything. It could put inflationary pressure on other salaries, but it's still more symbolic than anything at that number I suppose. In that context, I have to wonder why Republicans are crying murder over it. Obama leads by example on paying a more livable wage, but by itself it won't disrupt the economy nor break the budget.

16,000 isn't an accurate number, since it's only on NEW federal government contracts.

    this is peanuts

So if all those guys salaries go from 7.25 to 10.10 assuming they all work 8 hours a day and about 250 days a year that would cost the US government an extra 91million dollars. Which is less than .003% of the us budget.

At the healthcare summit (eight hours of discussion about the ACA, streamed live so that Americans could see it), how many Republicans uttered the words "clean sheet of paper" and how many offered actual suggestions, keeping in mind that this happened nearly a year into the process of crafting the legislation?

The answer is that every single Republican said the words "clean sheet of paper," as if they were reading from a Teleprompter and NONE of them offered anything that could have been construed as a compromise of any kind.

Bullsh!t. The GOP are the "revisionists" in the room. At no point, not once, did the GOP offer to compromise in any way on the ACA, and barely compromised on anything else.

In other words, you're a liar, which isn't an insult, but a label deserved because you are lying.

No, Obama refused to consider repealing his signature accomplishment when the GOP decided to shut down the government in order to try and do an end run around the legislative process. He refused to negotiate with hostage takers, there wasn't any compromise to be had.

I think they start with the Republican principle because they wanted Republican involved. They made a serious attempt to get Republican to the table... recall they had the number to push through whatever they wanted. If they don't give a damn about any Republican, they would just push something through. There was an attempt to get more than just Dem to vote for the final bill. There were more amendments to the bill from Rep side than from the Dem side. The Dem wanted a government option and even dropped that to get just 1 or 2 Rep on board. It didn't happen. Again, it was pretty clear, looking back, the Republican (in general - not all of them) would not allow any progress.

Does leadership accountability mean anything to you?

Or are you simply content with excuse making?

All you're doing is making excuses. Obama is the president. He's the leader. The buck stops there. He needs to change his approach and learn to work across the aisle. Otherwise he'll continue with the same lackluster results.

Neither side was willing to compromise on its stance for the individual mandate. Basically, it comes down to this....the Democrats had the votes to pass Obamacare, but they knew that if they did pass it, that would ensure future Republican obstructionism. They passed it anyway.

So yes, I blame both the Democrats and the Republicans for the gridlock.

This is revisionist history. Obama has never considered repealing Obamacare.

    Isn't that exactly what happened?

The main point of contention was the individual mandate which was a nonstarter for both sides.

I haven't made so much as a single excuse, but you have told a multitude of lies, that is where the buck stops.

If that was sarcasm, I missed it. Since it seemed in line with his previous posts, I took it at face value.
