There's a difference between starting with a republican principle and actually negotiating with republicans themselves.

While Democrats long advocated that universal health care should be achieved by simply extending Medicare to everyone, Republicans always countered that coverage should be run through insurance corporations, with a requirement that younger and healthier people buy into it. Richard Nixon proposed this concept in 1974. Then, in 1989, the Heritage Foundation (a Republican-allied think tank) basically proposed the full privatized system embodied in the ACA, including the "individual mandate" that everyone buy an insurance policy.

    Irrelevant, dude.

Obamacare is the topic of discussion. Research how it was passed. You're embarrassing yourself.

It was a compromise. The Democrats moved far toward the GOP position, and then the Republicans voted in lockstep against it, setting the tone for their subsequent approach as the opposition party. Always demanding compromise, never acknowledging it when given.

Obama can do whatever he wants, the courts can't keep up with him. These actions take years to adjudicate if anyone can even find standing.

The media would scream bloody murder if GWB was saying and doing this stuff, but there is no press to hold Obama to account. They are invested in him, they love him and only get mad if he doesn't show love back.

He can and does make law, amend law, ignore law at his whim.

He has a pen and what are you gonna do about it?

I don't know of any other POTUS that openly flaunted his ability to go around Congress the way Obama does.

Bullsh!t. The party which has been unwilling to compromise is the GOP, your attempts at revisionist history are noted and laughable.

There is a difference between refusing to compromise and not having anyone at the table with whom to compromise.

The GOP never came to the table, that wasn't Obama refusing to compromise, no matter how many times you repeat this egregious lie.

Please don't confuse them with facts. It would appear that they are confused enough already without introducing facts into the discussion.

Holy crap, it seems that the words "Executive Action" is a bit too much to handle to those that are arguing that Obama is skirting congress lol. Think of this as an amendment to contract forms and how contractors will have to bid accordingly when bidding on these new contracts.

I really am glad that Obama is at least doing this for those workers that are currently employed by private companies who business with the Feds. Hopefully this can eventually lead Congress to taking their heads out of their ass and increasing the minimum wage for workers.

Our conservative brothers have lost their minds with hate. There is no rational thought from the right at all anymore

You didn't pay attention and are trying to revise history to fit your personal political agenda.

Didn't Obama refuse to compromise on the individual mandate? And wasn't Obama originally opposed to the individual mandate? And wasn't the individual mandate the main point of contention among Republicans?

Executive actions are (supposed to be) directives to executive branch employees on how to enforce the law. They are not for imposing rules on the populace or making law.

The quantities are irrelevant, the content is what matters.

Obamacare doesn't work without the individual mandate. If insurance had take everyone in and people weren't required to buy coverage everyone would buy coverage when they got sick and would destroy the entire system.

However I disagree with Obamacare. I think it should be single payer.

Lol. I doubt any federal workers are actually paid the minimum wage. Nice rhetoric, though!
