I'm not faulting him. I already said it isn't a big deal. To me the correct response is not to point out Bush though because it does not deal with the actual issue being raised. If the issue being raised is cost (which is the issue being raised) it doesn't make sense to say "Well Bush went on a vacation a lot!" when his vacations didn't cost nearly as much. By the way, it always cracks me up to see SamFisher's arrogant "wingnut" insults. He points in the mirror and laughs and doesn't realize he's looking at his own reflection. So sad.
Of course this is a PR move but you know if the President had an R by his name some of the posts here would be very different.
Come again? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/16/bush-lied-about-giving-up_n_102138.html Never mind many people were insulted when Bush *said* we would give up golf... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/15/georgebush.usa
Agreed, can't stand his political stance but you can't deny his charisma and intelligence and ability to connect to people compared to other politicians regardless of party. As far as being a President, I'm not happy with some stuff not one bit but its little things that connect...which if you want to be a Pres. And serve two terms you have to have.
great news. White House might finally have enough $$$ for continued tours even after arming the rebel forces of the world.
Bush went on vacation more than any other president in modern history. And while it might be a bit cheaper to hang in crawford texas than hawaii, let's not forget the cost of not having a president work that hard with so many pressing problems to deal with.
It wasn't just a lot...it was a hell of a lot. Furthermore, I kind of doubt the president traveling anywhere is a cheap experience. Likely the only real delta is "actual" travel costs, which are probably trivial given the security and telecom requirements.
Frankly; to the right kind of people, $20,000 is a lot of money no matter what your income. I don't think anyone, anywhere should pro-actively reduce their own salary, or ever be expected to.
The "cost" of Obama's (and Michelle's) travels is a wingnut smear and has been from the beginning of his presidency. It is grounded in nothing more than an intentional misrepresentation of the facts and figures. Just Google Obama and vacation and you are hit with pages of spew from Beck, Infowars, and other wingnut sites. From FactCheck.org... By the way, W was on vacation more than any President since at least Hoover and probably ever. His 1,020 vacation days are almost as many days as JFK was in office (1,036) and amounted to 32% of his presidency. LBJ had 484 days, RR had 335, and Ike comes in at 456. When figuring the costs of W's travels, wingnuts only account for the air travel and none of the other things that they charge Obama with, like communications, security, staff, media, flying the Presidential limo, etc. Of course, maybe Obama could be more of a "man of the people" and reduce his security bubble. Or not...
Stupid Obama, giving up part of his own salary to try to help out. What an a-hole. /sarcasm Of course everyone is going to bash this move. If JJ Watt did it to help the Texans, though, he'd be the greatest person to ever live.
While I don't think a president should be defined by vacation times and salary ...(being president is the hardest, and most stressful job in the United States...) I remember when Ron Paul elected to something like this if he were to become president everyone was riding his dick. So for all the people that rode Ron Paul's dick but criticize Obama for basically the same thing, get out. For all those that realize that these PR stunts are merely PR stunts and aren't just calling it that because you ideologically oppose Obama then kudos to you.
Didn't Bush stay on his own property when he was in Texas? Wouldn't there be a substantial difference in cost between putting everyone up on his own ranch versus taking over most of a 5-star hotel?
Why don't you do the math since you are making the allegations ~ you guys are so lazy sometimes. Cmon Encyclopedia Brownie. I know you've got it in you since you're hot on the trail of a "substantial difference", right?
No kidding! Is someone seriously comparing Obama's short vacation time since taking office to Junior's massive vacation time? Good lord.
