Are you sure that there are only scientists on one side of the debate? Usually it takes two to tango, unless you're a mime of course.

I think we all know the correct answer.

This post is spot on. Even the Senate voted 98 to 1 that climate change is real earlier this year (link). So whether it's man-made or not, the entire senate (minus Mississippi) agrees it's happening. The entire "Obama is forcing his beliefs on us" argument is out of touch with both sides of the political spectrum.

Also, if you go back a couple years, even the idea that it may be man-made wasn't that contentious:

Poor people who get affected by disasters who pay FEDERAL taxes have just as much right to help as others... This is the wrong way to go about it...

Perry refused Obamacare funds. Why should his successor accept climate change funds?

    Poor people need insurance.

And they get help. This doesn't affect FEMA disaster-relief money.

This affects disaster-preparedness money for states who aren't effectively preparing for disasters. It's interesting to see people demanding wasteful and inefficient government.

I shouldn't say poor people. It affects all of us really.

I get the idea of this plan, but disaster preparedness is not something that you should tie to politics... This isn't some noble act. It's cutting something that is meant to save life. Why should people be put at risk over politics and greed? This isn't a noble act or even about global warming. That's a mask to hide the politicos fighting for power.

Also to the person harping about insurance... That's unrelated to this thread. Take your strawman somewhere else.

And yes global warming is real. People who aren't politicians live in those states and have every right to those funds. Now they will need it more than ever.. Regardless of how stupid their politicos are.

I agree with all this - but that's sort of the point of it. Everyone basically agrees that climate change is happening, whether its man-made or not. But certain states, for political reasons, are pretending otherwise and not allowing agencies to prepare based on that. That's where things are being tied to politics. The federal government is basically saying that if you do that crap, you don't get money.

The money is provided for states to prepare for disasters. If the states are going to put politics over proper preparation, why are we giving them money for it?

You do realize that Obama wasn't on a single ballot in 2014, right?

It was a much lower percentage when you looked at people who had actual expertise with Iraq's WMD programs.

IOW, the United States (in the form of the Bush administration) had a bunch of "military experts" saying that Iraq had WMDs (analogous to climate deniers) when the actual experts (UN weapons inspectors, analogous to climate scientists) said that Iraq's WMD programs had been suspended for quite some time.

    What a naive view.

The election was clearly a referendum on Obama's policies. And the election results speak for themselves -- a complete obliteration.

You said "direct referendum," which has a pretty specific meaning which you chose to ignore. It could not have been anything remotely approaching a "direct referendum" on Obama's policies when Obama wasn't on so much as one ballot in 2014.

A complete obliteration of congressional Democrats, absolutely. Of Obama's policies? Not so much.

The article presents what appears to be a logical fallacy. By claiming that governors who "deny" man-made climate change are putting their states at risk, they are asserting a claim that man-made climate change is the only climate change. They fail to make the connection between climate change and "denial" of man-made climate change. You could only believe such a claim of you were ignorant enough to think that only humans affect the climate.

The article you quoted doesn't even say what you say it says. The states' hazard-mitigation plans have to have a section on climate change. The governor isn't required to believe anything in particular. He doesn't have to kneel and kiss Obama's ring to get FEMA assistance. They just need to comply with bureaucratic protocols. You don't have to believe that something could happen to make a plan of what you'll do if it does happen. This looks like a complete nonstory to me, and (no doubt well-intentioned) posters arguing about the undeniability of climate change are wasting their breath. Here, it doesn't even matter -- this isn't the nexus of a clash of ideologies, just an opportunity to be prepared for disasters.

I think 97% most of the peer reviewed studies is on one side, that does tell you something, I mean the amount of time that goes into publishing one peer reviewed journal is probably longer than all of us have read on the subject combined.

the problem is that these debates are between layman who have very little actual knowledge on the subject other than wikipedia, I mean who here have actually read through more than 1 or 2 full length peer reviewed studies on the subject to actually have an valid opinion worth anything.

it's stupid people feel like they are right and so emotional about this issue in American because the liberals believe in it so I must believe the other way.

I will wait for the day something in advanced physics gets politicized too, and sit here and watch people argue whether string theory was correct by linking youtube videos

Another really bad idea. Scientists disagree. Plus, just because a few in leadership might think one way or the other, individual citizens should not be punished. Ridiculous.

    1) Scientists disagree.

not as much as the money that pays very few to do so.

    2) just because a few in leadership might think one way or the other, individual citizens should not be punished.

What do you think American politics is? lol.

You don't even have to believe in man-made climate change, you just have to address the fact that the climate is changing. jesus. if you don't do that in a disaster relief plan, your citizens are being punished for your laziness and incompetence.
