Obama campaigned on roughly taking the amount of troops in Iraq and moving them to Afghanistan. He said all along that any surge should have been in Afghanistan. I thought he would have increased the number in Afghanistan sooner and started withdrawing them sooner.

I have plenty of problem with Obama primarily regarding civil rights policy of his administration. But he's doing what he promised with regards to Afghanistan. I don't necessarily like the pace of the withdraw but it's not going against what he said he would do.

A simple Google search shows that nothing pgabs said was false. Don't see what's wrong with his comment that got you ranting; it's just facts.

Not Ranting.. Just pointing out that I don't think most Americans would have been very happy or supported him if he came out in his campaign that he plans to increase troops by more than double to an already very UNPOPULAR war. He did say he would increase troops by at least two brigades.. well he went well above and beyond that and sent 7-8 brigades.

seems like no one is on board. the military wants to stay longer, the left wants to draw down faster. interesting that obama mentioned pakistan in his speech.

That's true, I myself drew the line at 3 brigades - as did most Americans in 2008.

The exact number of incremental brigades was a true hot-button issue that was debated knowledgeably by many that year, along with Zach Efron's love life and the Patriots going undefeated.

When Obama did his "read my lips, no more than 2 brigades" speech in St. Paul - it was a defining moment - now consigned to the dustbin of broken dreams.

As others have pointed out Obama campaigned on this. The exact numbers were never stated but he pretty much said he was going to double down on Afghanistan. Also in 2008 Afghanistan wasn't an UNPOPULAR WAR. Iraq was.

That is how I remember it. I believe he said something to the effect of taking the focus away from Iraq and putting it on Afghanistan where it should be.
