Not to mention the fact that the people heading the mosque have been helping the FBI on counterterrorism for years and actually was an envoy for the Bush admin to the Muslim world.
I have lamented the same thing, reading yahoo comments after a posted article is enough to make you lose any faith you have in America. This whole thread is a useless, pathetic waste of time. Moderates and liberals have tried to make reasonable, rational, CONSTITUTIONAL arguments and have been met with distraction, denial and downright ignorance. We will NEVER reach anything resembling common ground on this issue or in this thread...EVER We might be a little more guarded and or less hostile in our responses(both sides--for the most part), but in the end, it might as well be a crazy yahoo free-for-all of Muslim/communist/socialist conspiracy theories, birth certificates, tea party delusion and over-the-top malice.
So now the neocons aren't down with Saudi, even though they attacked Iraq knowing where most of the 9-11 hijackers were from, even though we dare not say anything to our oil buddies about the freedom issues in their country. unbelievable
“Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society … then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. … We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.” -- Karl Popper
Just because you cannot relate to someone being wise does not mean he does not exist. He is a very sincere poster who only posts after having researched very thoroughly. He doesn't like the anger and name-calling here, which is why he does not post much in this forum anymore. Veterans might know whom I am talking about by the above description.
Get off your high horse. That wasn't what he was saying at all. What Refman meant was that there are more intolerant countries than the United States, that we don't have it as bad as it could be. And he's right. I can think of several countries far, far worse than the States, and far worse than France.
You gotta read those with a sense of humor. Yes what a fine point, it's okay to be awful as long as there are even worse examples out there Go live in France.
Less wise than him in that respect, for sure. Or someone who currently has a little more time on his hands than he should .
From an Economist poll: http://www.economist.com/blogs/demo...slamic_cultural_centre_sorta_near_ground_zero
So, basically, 48% of the country doesn't like one of the most important founding aspects of America. Awesome.
