Time line of how this fear mongering bullsh** all went down: http://www.salon.com/news/ground_ze...ar_room/2010/08/16/ground_zero_mosque_origins I think my favorite part was Laura Ingraham guest hosting O'reilly in December saying this: "I can't find many people who really have a problem with it." "I Like What You’re Trying To Do."
I think that is why the fear exists. Fear often flows from things we are unfamiliar with. The fear has to exist in order for a message playing on that fear to be effective. At the time we discussed politicization of 9/11, Bush was in office. The same George Bush that over and over (as you stated before) that we are not at war against Islam. The current group of bozos running the party are obviously different from Bush. Ironic since the Dems complained bitterly that the current group of Republicans were no different from Bush.
Ground Zero refers to the 3 by 3 area block that hosted the WTC complex. The mosque proposed cite is a few blocks away. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U....712427,-74.010172&spn=0.007953,0.017724&z=16 The link above will show the proximity of churches and strip clubs (as well as the existing mosque). It's pretty clear upon viewing this that really this was about hysteria being generated to sell newspapers and make some money.
The Hallowed Ground of II BLOCKS AWAY FROM GROUND ZERO: Clearly, a Mosque would be out of place on this HOLY GROUND.
The NRA had previously scheduled that meeting prior to the massacre. There's nothing wrong with the NRA or their meeting. Seriously dude, it defies logic anyone could be opposed to this center. I say this as someone who lived in NY on 9/11 and couldn't get into my apartment in Battery Park for couple of weeks because Osama had bombed the **** out of area. These are AMERICAN Muslims exercising their Constitutional rights to free religion. I'm generally a moral skeptic on most political questions (abortion, gay marriage, Israeli occupation of the West Bank, etc) meaning I think both sides usually have legit arguments and most supposedly "moral" questions are more political than anything but this is about a no brainer as you can get about right and wrong and still believe in America

again, it's not about the legality, it's about the propriety of building the mosque there. move it a few blocks, and no one would have a problem.
Meanwhile, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported the political fight could soon be moot, claiming mosque developers would "soon back down" and move elsewhere. Park51 developer Sharif el-Gamal said the Haaretz report couldn't be further from the truth. "That's complete misinformation. That's crazy," he said. "Everything is on track and moving forward at the same location. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local...round_zero_mosque_plan_whi.html#ixzz0wrpVcvXf
No one died in the WTC 7 building collapse. Also, even so, there are churches and strip clubs at equal distance away or closer. In NYC, one block to another can be a lot greater than the distance implied. Entire neighborhoods shift from one block to the next. Commercial to residential. As a matter of fact, the block the mosque is propose has been zoned for religious institutions. Why zone a block for religion if you don't want something that close to the WTC?
And I submit that the mosque builders shouldn't have to move just so pathetic minds who can't deal with Muslims can feel at ease. And at what point is it too close to "sacred ground"? 2 blocks? 5 blocks? 10? 100? Heck, all of New York was affected by that incident, let's ban mosques in New York. I am this close to just giving up on the GOP because of this crap. Ever since Buckley died, and Palin got nominated, it's all been downhill for us.
