lol I would like to think you are right. But, IMHO, if the 3 most prominent muslims in sporst (Dream, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and Mahummad Ali) was to build a Islamic Center 2 blocks from GZ, you would still have this same flap. Unfortunatly its the country we live in. Its not cool to dump on blacks and jews anymore, so everyone dumps on muslims and Mexicans
Deaf ears Stevie, I and several others have pointed this out but he is a broken record. Not sure why the "libs force moral" point is of such importance, did I miss a talking point somewhere along the way?
What's interesting (well interesting I guess in the same sense that it's interesting to watch a dog sniff other dogs poop) is that a few weeks ago, this came out (it was all over the local news) and you clearly knew about it. And so you started a good ol' fashioned racebaiting thread to f-k around with on a weekend (a nice weekend day too....one of the few of the summer thus far.....yet you chose to waste it). But instead of citing this story you found a white kid who was killed in a robbery and launched into a standard "why can't white people say the n-word! hate crime!" type rant. And compared it to the Vidor murders. What can brown do for you! Apparently not enough to satisfy your "exploit a hate crime for bbs whackoff points!" until several weeks later. SAD FACE
not sure these are equivalent. who is trying to tell grown women what they can do with their own bodies, other than muslims of course, who insist they be covered head-to-foot.
The point is, if not for all the media (mis)information being spread around like napalm, I doubt most people would even notice it once it's built. It's 2 blocks away and lower Manhattan is certainly more dense than downtown Houston. It just smells like a manufactured controversy. FWIW, I was originally opposed to this, but the more I read about it, the more I think it's really not a big deal. Ironically, this is exactly what the center is supposed to do. showtang043 put it better than me: But it you listen to (surprise...) talk radio, this place is going to be a terrorist training ground with a picture of osama bin laden on the facade of the building like a Vegas casino...
Probably because a motley collection of xenophobic assholes, liars, and other detritus are making a fuss about it.
If he didn't, I'm sure you or someone else would post a right-wing article about how Obama is "dithering" on this issue as well.
"While it's commendable that Senator Reid now agrees with Republican Sharron Angle..." That should be enough for Reid to question his strategists.
Well, it's not like I had any respect for him anyway. Still, it's sad to hear him come out like this.
