Paying the going market rate to corporations for their goods is now a tax? If so, what is not a tax?

    you're being intentionally dense

increasing gasoline prices have the same effect as a tax, since everybody has to pay them who drives.

    Whereas your denseness is unintentional?

Taxes are something politicians control. The price of gasoline is set by the market and largely out of the control of government; neither does the government collect much of the benefit. If increase in gas prices is a tax, so is the increase in corn prices, which affects almost everyone who eats food, and so is the manipulation of LIBOR which affects everyone who lends or borrows money or does business with anyone who does. Inflation is a tax. The price of copper is a tax. Paper clips? Tax. Waiters' tips? Tax. Everything is a tax.

Oil companies are doing just fine, the higher tax rate does not seem to really effect their bottom line.

    This post exposes your ignorance.

Energy policy is not science. It's economics, business, geopolitics and a little bit of science that government absolutely should not be picking winners in (e.g., Solyndra).

Your side just fundamentally doesn't get it.

Health care costs for the uninsured have the same effect as a tax since everybody has to pay for them who pays taxes.

tell me more of what you know about the power outage at the Torrance plant, the fire at the Richmond plant, and the California summer blend fuel requirements, and how Obama is to blame.

Once again, I have to remind everyone here that Obama is in control of the FOMC and its' continued response to 2008 and that environmental regulations on US drilling really make a huge difference in the world oil price (especially with those rampant speculators).

    also from the article...

"The average for the state of California hit $4.61, matching the record highest price set in June 2008."

and from an LA Times article this morning:
"If it’s any comfort, and it probably isn’t, that's only a nominal record because when adjusted for inflation, the old record equals $4.93 in 2012 dollars."

    http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-gas-price-record-20121006,0,3160717.story

so all that talk about gas prices being double what they were when Obama started his presidency means nothing, especially when you are talking about California gas prices.

how is Obama responsible for June 2008 gas prices being so high?

    You're being intentionally naive.

Obama has no influence on the FOMC? Hmmm....

and California has more regulations than just drilling restrictions

Remember, Stephen Chu (Obama's egghead energy homeboy) wants higher gasoline prices. He even said so
