Kind of, but related... it all goes to the cost of government and what's the most efficient way to provide government services.
You really should get out more, lil'texxx. I know several government workers who put in very long hours. They also have a real interest in serving the public, something I know is a concept foreign to you, but let me digress. Hey, how's your brother? The place doesn't seem the same without Trader_J.
I have never had anything but exemplary service at my local post office and I used to run packages there constantly for my wife's internet retail business.
My old post office was horrible. The service was terrible, the women behind the counter were lazy and crabby, etc. My new post office is awesome. The woman and the man that are usually there are always friendly and they move through lines as quickly as can be expected. Night and day difference. All employees at both locations are black (except for one old white lady at the old location I saw every now and then) so it's not some stupid race issue. You know what I figured out though? At my old neighborhood THE PEOPLE in the neighborhood were snotty and standoffish. In my new neighborhood people are much friendlier. I have a feeling that the post office employees are a reflection of their clientele.
This past summer I had a government internship and loved the experience. It didn't pay very well and I would liked to have stayed with the job but I don't think they had the money to hire me on for a year. So I went out and found a much higher paying job. I don't know why people are complaining about private sector jobs and poor college education when I found the job I have now on a whimisical internet search with a 4-year degree. I don't think it's fair to freeze salaries across the board, I mean do people think it's fair to raise taxes across the board or to raise taxes for the mega-rich-board-of-trustee-for-an-NPO?
