If you pay a ransom, would you use your or money or their money?

    Just curious?

It doesn't matter whose money it is, what matters is that it was clearly either paid or released in connection to someone being set free. That indicates that the U.S. government essentially allowed itself to be blackmailed. And then it tried to cover it up by lying.

If anything, it's the US using the money as blackmail. The US had to give Iran the money or owe much more. Using Iran's own money to leverage them into giving us something in return for it is just smart.

I think a bunch of you are just screaming because something happened, yet you don't really understand what happened.

They "had to"? Then why had they not done it in 40 years?

    Also:

If they "had to", why was the money delivered in cash stacked aboard an unmarked cargo plane?

    Yeah right.

    Exactly....

Everyone is going to spin it like they want... but it was Their money... It was not the US money.

you american traitors (republicans & democrats) can't help yourselves can you. arguing about the dumbest details. bottom line we should have never negotiated with a **** regime like iran and those sailors should not have been in illegal waters. dealing with both makes you an idiot regardless of the details.

and about the 400 million, giving it back is a b**** move. we already had it, it's ours. should we negotiate something with mexico and give back califorina, texas, etc... it used to be mexico's anyway so it's not like we're really losing anything. we would totally get over on them! you guys are morons.

btw..., all of us should be prepared for kidnapping americans abroad to get really popular now and for all types of regimes to ask for monetary reparations for whatever they can think of that impacted them in the past.

They had to because that was the settlement that was reached to avoid the litigation going to the Hague. The money was delivered in foreign currency because US banks can't do business with Iran. You should actually read about the facts instead of presenting questions that you could easily answer for yourself. Yeah right. Lol

We didn't want to give it back but we were losing in court and were about to get a huge settlement against us.

You can't "pay" someone their own money.

We stole their money, they stole our people.

We traded their money for OUR people. ABSOLUTE WIN. Crazy to think that some folks value stolen money over human life.

Interesting. So it would not have been possible to transfer money to a bank that can do business with Iran, and transfer it to Iran from there. Clearly, it had to be cash stacked on an unmarked cargo plane, because that is business as usual. Not.

I think when you are dealing with a sovereign nation it's called diplomacy.

It takes compromises to actually get something done between parties with conflicting interests. It's sometimes called "the art of the deal".

    BWAAAAHAHA

The liberals are so delusional. Now they've convinced themselves that ransom is OK, and also referred to as "compromise" and "diplomacy".

    Just such weak thinkers.

Obviously the solution was to tell Iran go ahead and shoot those sailors if they dare and then say fk to international courts.

it's the cowboy foreign policy that has gotten us in a hot mess globally over the decades, like supporting terrorists all across the Americas just to get a political point across, then doing it to the middle east.

Obama disagrees with your sarcasm. He says you never pay ransoms.

Are people really this stupid? Even if you pay ransom, are you going to advertise the fact and say we will pay ransom? This is international politics not fantasy land.
