On This Week yesterday they had David Stockman (Reagan's budget director) who said we should do that and also allow all of Bush's tax cuts to expire. Just cutting government isn't going to be enough balance the budget.
please tell me this is what you actually believe so that i can ridicule you relentlessly from here on out. thanks.
2005 spending: 2.472 trillion 2008 revenues: 2.524 trillion Just pass the 2005 budget, problem solved.
Keep in mind the 2005 budget doesn't accurately reflect actually spending as spending to conduct the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and other emergency spending was kept off the books.
It would actually be more than passing the 2005 budget. Inflation makes stuff in that budget cost more and the governments revenue has dropped to 2.4 trillion. But it should be easy to run a government on 2.4 trillion.
True. The Bush administration refused to include the cost of the wars in their budget, and instead used supplementary costs to pay for it. So there is no way the money from 2008 would pay for it.
I'll be doing all I can to make Obama a single term president, but ridicule away. It will mean as much to me as SWTsig versus a STUsig moniker.
This thread: Another in the long line of simple, succinct demonstrations that reveal thumbs' claims of non-partisan "concern" to be the usual teabagger nonsensical lunacy.
To me this thread is about people coming into a thread that had an honest discussion and crapping everywhere.
I'd say he is right. I'm not for letting the tax cuts expire for everyone, but I am in favor of no new tax cuts unless directly related to investment. What Congress really should do is take the tax code, put it through the shredder, and re-write it. Of course that will never happen, and if they did start over, they would just do a poor job.
You do realize that the gov't collects more in S.S. and payroll taxes than we spend on S.S.? S.S. isn't busting us...yet, but it will once all those baby boomers retire.
You don't think suggesting a black guy got through an Ivy League school by playing basketball isn't just a bit racially tinged? Good Grief.
Ironically, the House Stonewalling Obama and it's efforts to make him a single term president is actually what will probably get him re-elected.
