The problem is that it seems that this recovery will be one without a recapture of jobs. This is not Obama's fault. It just is what it is.

Things are going to be ugly for a lot of people for quite some time to come.

There will be greater employment. Consumer spending may not recover to the degree necessary to support 5% unemployment, but it should come down to the 6-7% range over the next 2 years.

The health industry - with so many aging boomers is still going to grow a great deal as well.

The economy is doing worse, blame the gouvernment! ...Government, can we please have money? The gouvernment sucks. blah blah, less taxation, Reagen is the truest of the true despite the fact he nationalized banks and raised taxes to the infinite plain...gouvernment, please protect us from violent crime! Government, please war on our enemies! Government, protect us from sexual deviants! Government, regulate the most intimate aspects of other people's lives like abortion, because my moral code does not permit me to understand other people and to have figurative blood on my hands!

Oh, wait, the economy is doing better? Government, GTFO of my life, biatch. Private market forces for the win!

    rinse and repeat

Unemployment has peaked? I don't think the numbers support that assertion, at least yet. From people I have talked to, small businesses are suffering because people aren't spending. A bunch of companies are cutting costs shipping jobs overseas. The stimulus is pretty much is going into wasteful spending.

6-7% unemployment should be unacceptable. Even now Japanese unemployment is 5%.

I think healthcare will be the biggest thing he contributes to this country if he gets it through. I hope he gets it through.

it's ill-informed people like you, Basso and the Traitor and those of the same ilk, that don't get it.

    ignorance kills.

thank you for the unsolicited rebuttal to Basso's baseless claim that Mr. O has done nothing.

that was just way too easy :)
ignorance is not knowing what "jack squat" means, in a manner that Basso doesn't understand what "Accomplished nothing" means.

thank you for making it so easy for me to point out your ignorance.

Um, let's look at what your complaints are so far:

This is a bad thing for you? I knew he wouldn't go and withdraw the troops in the way he said he would, but I'm fairly content that he's continuing the war. Why are you complaining that he's not withdrawing the troops? (besides, if he did, I know what your complaint would be then.)

Explain how this is a bad thing again.

He did pass that bill - I'll admit that I don't know too much about the issue of global warming, but at minimum you can't say that he hasn't done anything about it. Now whether what he did was good or bad is a matter of debate, but I doubt it is unimproved.

Ah well. He's a Democrat, he'll get some things wrong. No worse than Bush anyhows.

To put it mildly, debatable. My impression is that it has been getting better, but it could be just me.

I would hardly expect Obama to balance the budget, but if you think that he could in 6 months balance a budget that has been in deficit for 20-odd years, you're an idiot. Plain and simple.

And anyone who actually believed his rhetoric about throwing out all lobbyists is also a fool. And I have never understood why lobbyists are such a terrible thing nor why their presence necessarily signifies corruption - the alternative is a government bureaucracy that determines where what money goes where, and that's against big government.

Besides, what the heck have we done? Letting that fool woman of a VP run the party? Go into a hyper-conservative frenzy which daily is making the GOP look like the John Birch Society? We've done absolutely nothing, whether it is in accomplishing or even in presenting an alternative image to Obama. The GOP has gone off the deep end, and as long we do so, it doesn't really matter what Obama does - short of him actually being a Muslim Socialist terrorist who actually takes order from Osama and the Communist Party, he'll look better than we currently do.

Bush got us to 10% - it takes a while to get it down. It's going to take us 4 years to get down to 6% again.

The Fed and most economists are predicting a peak of 10-10.3% which is about where we are so that's the peak. I think in 2010 we'll see it begin to drop.

I love how, during the campaign, the bigtexxx's of the world were whining about how Obama supporters were clueless and had too high expectations and were in for a surprise, etc, etc. And now it's the McCain supporters who are whining about what exactly what they said Obama supporters would. Meanwhile, Obama supporters knew the whole time that stuff takes time.

Obama hasn't lost any of his core support. He's lost much of his soft-support - the people that come and go based on short term news. For example, anytime policy is being formulated, poll numbers will go down because all you will hear are the negatives. If and when health care reform passes, his poll numbers will go up because you'll hear the positives. But that's all soft-support that's really irrelevant 1.5 yrs out from the next major election.

At the end of the day, his poll numbers are right around his vote share, and he's basically doing the same with every demographic group as he did in November (slightly higher since his poll numbers are a bit higher than his vote share). That means nothing has really changed in terms of his core support levels:

If there were real changes in his support due to his policies, you would expect to see a non-linear relationship - some groups would dislike him more compared to where they did in November, and others would do so less. It really is amusing to see people like bigtexxx and basso who don't know the first thing about policy, politics, or polls try to make nonsense arguments using surface-level facts from Drudge.

Major, you can try to excuse away the numbers whichever cute way you'd like, but the bottom is that they're heading south. Run the regression on that, brah

Of course it does. If what previous Presidents did and what circumstances they left the next President in was irrelevant, Abraham Lincoln would be remembered as a douchebag idiot who led us into a Civil War instead of being credited with saving the union.
