I make fun of OddsOn myself, but I think politically the President is missing an opportunity to reach out to a pretty large segment of society. Millions of parents have kids in scouts. My daughter is a Girl Scout and is starting high school in the Fall. Unlike her own, many of the parents lean towards a conservative philosophy. My daughter could care less about that, being raised a good Liberal, but enjoys scouts and especially enjoys summer camp out at Camp Texlake every summer on Travis. She likes going to senior citizen facilities around Christmas and singing carols. She enjoys the projects she does for merit badges. Obama could have gone on The View whenever he likes. They would change their schedule for him in a moment.

He should have gone to the Scout Jamboree. Perhaps he still can.

Any idea who will be occupying it? I can't seem to find any info on it.

It really is a beautiful building so far.

The funny thing about the song I love LA is that it is a song making fun of LA, but Angelinos didn't get it, and adopted as a theme for all the sports team. It's hilarious.

The last time Obama tried to address America's youth the wanker wingnut crowd went ballistic.

I'm less fussed about him missing the jamboree then his adding legitimacy to "the View."

    Lurker post alert:

I'm an eagle scout, and I could honestly care less that he doesn't attend. Can we really find nothing better to gripe about? I mean really?

I assume you achieved your Eagle Scout rank about 7 years ago. Back then, wouldn't you have thought it was pretty cool if the President showed up at the Jamboree?

He should attend and I suspect he will make an appearance at the jamboree before it concludes.

Little known fact: the last and sometimes most dangerous Boy Scout badge one can obtain is the NAMBLA badge.

Exactly right on when I got my Eagle. However, not very many actually get (read also: have to, in most cases) to go to jamboree. I was more concerned about being able to drive my 88 volvo station wagon block 4 that was leaking oil. I can maybe recall 2 people I know that ever went and they were less than impressed. It would have been a nice touch, but I got to meet Bush at SMU. Even got to meet the first lady at my graduation ceremony. So /shrug

I suspect the Man Scouts care about this a lot more than the Boy Scouts.

Exactly, call it stereotypical but most boyscouts' parents lean toward the conservative side. He'd be setting himself up by going there. Obama needs to focus on the best way to keep the wing nuts from getting into office. If that means to get on "The View" to bolster the dems position for coming election.....so be it.

Yup. He gets lambasted for trying to "indoctrinate" kids, then he gets lambasted for not participating in "indoctrinating" kids (make no mistake, that's largely what the Boy Scouts are about). He can't win for losing.

Personally, if he chooses to distance himself from a group that is homophobic and discriminatory against atheists, I'm very okay with it.

Appearing on "The View", however, is quite stomach-churning. ;)

He'll probably fire and rehire someone during that timespan.

Just so he can put some checkmarks on his wingnut RSS feed.
