I've made this argument in the past, and I find it way too convenient. Christian conservatives have wished to mandate all kinds of things from their faith tradition into law....but when we talk about money it's, "well that shouldn't be mandated by government, it should be left to the individual." That doesn't work for me anymore. It doesn't make sense to me. As a Christian, it should be less about me and more about God. What I get from the Bible is that God is deeply concerned with the state of human beings...and calls on us to take care of those in poverty. He judged nations and regions collectively for how they dealt with the poor in the OT. So if my concern is others then my vote isn't about how it benefits me...it's about what sort of culture I'm working to create. What values are in place there. Government is part of our culture. It some ways it shapes culture. In other ways it is shaped by culture. Now if you don't believe these policies lead to the alleviation of poverty, then that's a whole different argument. I think that's a good argument worth having. But I don't want people of faith hiding behind some illusion that when government helps people it's really not of God. Because it all belongs to Him, anyway.
And people who have worked building homes, designing homes, admins for the architecture companies, banks that handle the mortgages, etc. may have all had their lives saved since it provided them with work and enough food to eat, raise a family etc.
It's funny. IIRC Mr. Meowgi's erratic behavior on VY threads was considered cute. His erratic behavior on Obama threads is considered annoying.
Probably because there aren't dozens of useless/r****ded Obama threads being started (at least by his supporters!)... and tons of people running around slobbing his knob as black jesus. etc. You know the drill. Obama-tards < VY-tards on this BBS
I believe that to be due to the american intertwining of capitalism and christianity, held together via a conveniant nostalgia for "puritan work ethic". Fundamentally, capitalism is estranged from the "love your neighbor" and "infinite compassion" element of christian doctrine. Jesus told the rich man to give all he owned to the poor - not exactly a wise business move. This ugly contradiction has been tiptoed around by arguments that range from assertions that the federal government is not beholden to provide support to the impoverished, to cleverly phrased doctrines that imply god rewards those who are faithful to him, thereby blaming the poor for being poor. In either case it's a piss poor excuse for why the richest country in the world still cannot provide for a huge portion of it's own citizenry. Not that this problem is strictly due to hypocritical christians. It's common to any greedy human. Just that christians are supposed to be raised to think otherwise.
sometimes folks go crazy, unfortunate, but true. rationally, "you're all morons", "people live & die with money", "million dollar home" criminal, suggests a mind on the edge of a breakdown. political (or other) differences aside, i wish my fellow Rocket fan Meowgi, only the best regards!
Agree'd. But, I do see a pattern. He doesn't like a black man in a power postion. Doesn't like a black man running a football team (quarterback, VY) and cringes in fear to think of a half-black man running this country (president, Barack). And he disguises it all with this bold NASA signature.
