I'm glad you were able to go. If I tried to go to a recent Bush talk, I wouldn't be let in because I couldn't get a ticket from the local GOP party poohbahs. Good to see Obama's not afraid to address all Americans.
I was there, in the upper tier with my sister. My other sister went straight over after she got out of class and was on the floor by the podium. She even got a hug after the speech. From the Chronicle's live blog: <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mIHgqDFpUhQ&rel=1&border=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"width="425" height="355"> Oh, and I'm pretty sure ima_drummer2k's band was the band playing there tonight. Good job overall, but the less I say about your boy singing Ricky Martin the better
Man are you serious!? No offense, but that band annoyed the hell outta me. Not so much the drums, but I'm a trumpet player and that guy was tough to listen to. So was that one large chick trying to sing Aretha Franklin. My ears were bleeding!
It was definitely full. It was roughly the same speech he's given everywhere the last few weeks but it was still quality of course. The crowd was very diverse. All races, all ages... I've never been in a crowd quite like it. Obama touched on all the relevant topics... the economy, the war, college tuition, outsourcing, healthcare, etc. I thought his best moment was when he talked about educating kids, how the kids in East Texas and South Texas should be just as important to us as the kids in our own neighborhoods and how we need to fund education. I thought he'd talk about immigration more because of the big latino population in Texas but he played it pretty safe. It was a historic night any way you slice it.
That was one of the most electrifying things I have ever been to. I think I have been to over 75 Rockets games in my life and never have I ever heard the Toyota Center, the Compaq Center, Reliant Stadium, MM, the Dome or anywhere sound like it did when Obama came out. The sound was deafening. My ear literally hurt. There was no music being pumped in, it was only the cheers of his supporters. I enjoyed his speech tremendously but man can he play the three? The crowd at TC would go nuts if he wore Rockets red!
man for real i was in 125 and it was jam packed. People were sitting two to concrete step until the police told them they had to leave
That's not risky, its straight up racist. You're usually much more deft at skating on the periphery of racism, but that's two feet in bounds. How can you draw that parallel in any way other than skin color? Maybe YOUR reaction - that of fear, and the stark realization that your narrow worldview is flimsy and misanthropic and doomed - was very similar, but the reactions of people being inspired by a politician with a substantive message of hope and people being gleeful to see OJ walk free were similar only in the skin color of those on television. Why not just say that the crazy look in the eyes of Obama supporters reminds you of the LA riots? I actually thought more of you than this one. The fear of the Megadittoheads is so palpable in this election, I can not wait to hear their squeaks when the full force of history smushes them - when McCain, Hillary and Obama are the three top contenders for the presidency, at some point you have to look in the mirror and admit that something has really gone wrong for your movement. And, I really want to know even one non-reactionary opinion you - and bigtexx - hold during this election. Is there anyone you can even pretend to support? Is there even one opinion or value you can communicate that does not involve the degradation of someone else's opinion or values?
Real Doubtful. That place was full. Some posters here are delusional and are scared **** less. I'm no Obama guy, at least I am sure I am not at the moment. Hil isn't my dude either.
It was an incredibly content-light speech. Yes, he said that he hopes the kids in South Texas get an education. WOW, that's ground breaking. I'm sure none of the other candidates hold that same position . I'd like to hear WHAT impressed you about his speech concerning any of those topics. I'm telling you guys - this is all Osteen cultish feel-good. The parallels are frightening.
"man for real" I was there and used my own two eyes. Here is a somewhat independent viewpoint on how many people were there (although the houston comical has already endorsed Hussein Ubama). They said it was mostly full, which it was - not full, mostly full http://blogs.chron.com/houstonpolitics/ 9:03 p.m.: Many of us are trying to estimate how many people are in attendance. We know that the arena seats roughly 18,300 people for basketball games, and this place is mostly full. 17,500? 18,000? "A lot of people," according to R.G.'s precise estimate.
I didn't say that. It was mostly full. Not full, mostly full. It was completely full of Osteen-like feel gooders, though. All fluff
