Ok he's done. Seriously...people in the crowd think this is a civil rights speech. People are yelling 'free at last' waving their arms, jiving and whooping. Beyonce now being played very loud. I'm leaving the arena now.

wow - sounds like a momentous event, texxx, one that you will one day tell your grandchildren about! Sounds like the future president really brought the house down. Thanks for taking the time to fill the rest of us in!

Well I assume we will eventually hear from someone less biased about what it was like.

Curious that bigtexx had the exact same reaction nearly word for word that he kept repeating in numerous previous threads about Obama's speeches.

Sounds like there may be some thuggish elements present there amongst the crowd. I'm a little concerned for biggie's safety and well-being. Is the limo coming to pick him up from this jivish scene?

Ok, I hate to admit this...but i missed the speech. I went to the Toyota Center tonight at about 4:00 PM, and stood in a ridiculously long line. We finally got in at about 6:15, but my girl started feeling bad and we ended up leaving at around 8:45 and Obama still had not come out to speak. There was over an hour of random people coming out and trying to start "chants" but after a while it just got really played out and annoying. Since my girl wasn't feeling well and we had the feeling Barack wasn't even there yet, we left.

Sucks I missed it, but damn the wait was waaaaayyyy too long and my girl was was in bad shape.

Oh, and to refute texxx's BS. The Toyota Center was full. There were scattered open seats, but I've been to several Rockets games and have never seen the arena fuller than it was tonight.

Yup. I came a little late and had to stand along the railing in the upper bowl. Its a shame we can't get anywhere near this turnout for Rockets games.

Not to mention the sections on the floor. He said there were 20 thousand people there.

The pre-speech cheerleaders need a lil work. ;)

The lower bowl was pretty full (but not behind the podium) but the upper bowl had some empty spots

You know, when I see the reactions on the news of some of the people leaving the arena after Obama's speech, I can't help but draw a parallel to the gleeful reactions of blacks after OJ was found not guilty of murder. I know it's a risk to say that, because I'll have people jumping all over me for it, but that's really what it looks like here. Very similar reactions.
