The eulogizing of MLK and Malcolm X -- among others -- only following their deaths/assassinations is all the proof I need. America as a whole has very low tolerance for Black leaders who dare to hold up a mirror and ask questions of their fellow citizens. It causes 'discomfort' and they are quickly denounced as 'radicals' and 'America haters'. For your information, MLK was equally denounced for many of his views on social policy, war, and -- of course -- race. Much of what he said back then is being repeated by prominent Black Americans today, and they're being equally denounced and scoffed at by mainstream America...some four decades later.

If you would like, I can post some MLK quotes here so you can see just how 'radical' some of his ideas/beliefs were and would still be today. It's all the more ironic how people of all races and ideologies feign their 'love' and 'respect' for him today, but it's much easier to do so when the man is dead and can cause no further harm to the 'national interest'...when his legacy has already been defined and 'cemented' in the national conscious (not the entirety of his message, if I might add...just the 'approved' parts).

    But we shall see...

In this case I'm going to have to agree with T_J. While Obama supporters might feel Clinton is pulling all stops going after Obama that is still within the context of the Democractic primaries. Clinton is certainly trying to bring Obama down on the basis of getting them to not vote for them and vote for her but she can't do so to the point where they abandon the Democrats altogether and not even come to the polls cause that would mean she doesn't win either. McCain and the Republicans though take it for granted that their supporters wouldn't vote for Obama in the first place but they have to motivate them to get to the polls and vote for the Republicans. The way they do that is to make Obama (or any Democrat) out to be such a threat that their supporters come and vote out of fear of a Democratic victory.

I understand there is a fine line here and that Clinton is coming up to that line but I don't believe the damage and attacks that Obama is taking now are anything compared to what will happen in the general. As I've said though before him having to deal with this now might very well make him a better candidate than getting swiftboated by them in the general.

Well put Jeff and I totally agree we all need to be more careful and civil. At the sametime we should probably grow some thicker skins and crying to the mods when one feels insulted I don't think is the best way to go.

Many posters here are out to push other poster's buttons and unfortunately many just let their buttons get pushed. We're debating passionate subjects here and I know its hard to keep our emotions in check, I've had to catch myself a few times recently in regard to the Tibet debates, but if we want to the keep the D & D we should.
