    As an independent, if he can end the wars somehow I'd be all over his nuts and I don't care for nor trust the guy's politics. Our country's foreign policy is sucking us dry. Put that money into funding social projects here. That'll piss off the neo cons but they've had a 10 years stimulus since 9/11.

    Yes, Obama's refusal to issue the executive order probably brought this legislation about much quicker than would have happened otherwise. He did make a screwy tax deal to get this done, but in the end it did get done, and it wasn't in small part to Obama's machinations.

    Like 2009's removal of the HIV ban, which was as painstakingly slow but thereby much more entrenched, this process took time. Without the Pentagon study, it wouldn't have passed. Without Obama keeping Lieberman inside the tent, it wouldn't have passed. Without the critical relationship between Bob Gates and Obama, it wouldn't have passed. It worked our last nerve; we faced at one point a true nightmare of nothing ... for years. And then we pulled behind this president, making it his victory and the country's victory, as well as ours.

    We also know now what a McCain administration would have done: nothing. The disgraceful bitterness and rancor and irrationality that the Senator has shown these past few months reveal just how important it was to defeat him and his deranged, delusional side-kick in 2008.

    That was put in place so there is a series of check and balances. You wouldnt want the Repulicans to have control of the senate and just pass every single one of their agendas through would you?? I know I wouldnt. Same goes for all the Democrats. I sure as hell dont want them to get whatever they want. No system is perfect and ours is far from it but i guess it has done okay up till now.

    honestly, I respect you as a poster. I know I defend Obama on a lot of your criticisms. I really don't have a problem with some of your criticisms, for instance I'm not totally happy with the tax compromise and I wish he would stand up more on repealing instead of continuing policies on wire tapping for instance.

    why I do respond negatively to you is because you totally ignore that this is still politics. and leaving that aside for you to come in this thread and say you don't give Obama that much credit on this is really weak when this is how Obama tended to play this all along. He said he wanted to do this through Congress and he gave legitimate reasoning and he got it done, with the help of congressional leaders. really it probably is his most resounding victory. so chill and just give him his credit on this.

    the legislative process is long and messy and when you can get something done its great. and leave it at that.
