Israel is just trying to mend fences after Netanyahu was playing footsie with Romney during the election.

I'm beginning to get more insight into the modern American liberal. They only care about perception and they care little about actual work and progress. That explains why they love articulate speeches so much and care little about the progress that follows after the speech. This could be a by-product of today's "news snippet" generation that gets their worldviews through 30 second soundbites on news shows, rather than actually going in depth on anything.

    Very shallow on their part

You didn't answer the question. Don't post if you don't want to be in the DEBATE or DISCUSSION

statement a) Obama is a POS for telling Netanayhu that he doesn;t have time for a meeting because he has to do the Jimmy Kimmell show

statement b) Obama's speech to the Israelis was meaningless and not historic

    How are those contradictory?

Don't blame you though. Forced to resort to chain emails, while the second-term President Barack Obama goes around and gets s**t done.

    Again, because I love emphasis.

    li'l t, li'l t,

We love the articulate speeches, the hard work, and the progress that have been the hallmark of the Obama administration. What a refreshing change after Bush's eight year **** show. Some highlights in case you've already forgotten that nightmare- a president that could barely utter a coherent thought, presiding over the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, a shattered economy, and the failed efforts to bring America's #1 enemy to justice.

    Oh yeah.

    Scoreboard, breh.
    Four More Years.

Disregarding the Obama program hate from the right-wing robots here...

I think Obama has very little influence and power in this conflict. No American president really does. No world leader does. You can not expect to shift either side as dug in as it is, motivated by political desires. Obama might as well appeal to people to go around the leaders who have failed to negotiate. It probably won't work but credit him for trying.

You're so sad. One day he's a piece of **** because he won't kiss Bibi's ass to meet whenever he wants but when he freaking flies to Israel to meet him he's just giving speeches. Shut up already.

And really, the President has to meet Netanyahu every week? I thought we had a telephone in the White House.

Can we ignore the trolls and discuss this like adults?

Here's the full text of Obama's remarks:
    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/03/21/transcript-obamas-speech-in-israel/

Here's a collection of responses by various Israeli journalists:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/mar/22/obama-in-israel-press-reaction

And here's what the Economist had to say (reposting because all rational thought has been buried in here so far):
    http://www.economist.com/blogs/pomegranate/2013/03/barack-obama-israel

The upshot seems to be that Obama said enough to keep good relations with Netanyahu. He also voiced, in front of millions of Israeli viewers, a moderate viewpoint that has been stifled in Israeli politics, which some commentators feel will embolden dovish Israelis. On the other hand, barring massive protests in Israel, whether this speech has any larger impact will depend on what actions Obama now takes to pressure Netanyahu into recognizing the right of Palestinians to their own state, free of occupation.

Meanwhile, Palestinians were burning his photo in the streets after his continuing in the tradition of American lunacy by declaring unconditional support for Israel despite being the hilariously alleged independent arbitrator of Israeli-Palestinian politics.

Why would they not cheer for him in Israel? In Israel, it's not about whether he supports the Israeli cause. It's only about how hard he supports it. They just don't trust him enough because he doesn't seem like he's being genuine when he declares eternal alliance with Israel..

His speech was meaningless. Meeting with Bibi isn't/wasn't.

You can have meetings over the phone (even computers now a days). Welcome to the adult business world Comets.

Not by giving speeches or winning medals. He could with accomplishments. That's how it works in the real world.

Damned if he does what exactly? What did he just achieve?

That's right. You judge a man by how his administration completely manipulates and cherry-picks information on hand so that it can "justify" attacking countries that didn't attack us, then, after the fact, in a random moment years later, say with a hand-in-the-cookie-jar-expression that there was no connection between Saddam and al-Qaeda (which anyone who can read could have figured out anyway). THAT's how you judge a man.

    it's a euphemism.

he was criticized relentlessly for not ever going to Israel. now he has done that and apparently is the first one to receive such an award.

it does not matter to those who detest the man.

    it's a pretty simple observation.

No he was criticized for telling Netanyahu that he didn't have time for a meeting then did the Jimmy Kimmell Show. An ally is on the brink of war, but the Jimmy Kimmell Show takes priority.

He is currently not being criticized for going to Israel. Just being told that his speech is meaningless and not historic. So was the award.

a sitting US president to receive an award for the first time is actually pretty historic.

but thanks for the input and your thoughts on the matter.

How so? What does an award accomplish? Peace in the Middle East perhaps? All it took was an award?

I think you need to step back and take a deep breath. I am no fan of Obama btw.

You have no idea what goes on, to you what may look like a snub may actually be a carefully planned move to send a message. Netanayhu was a total dick to the entire country with his "Demands" and demeanor during that time fram, hell even people in Israel called him out on that. You probably wouldn't even admit that much though. For some reason neo-cons love sucking this guy off. That being said It is PARAMOUNT that we have good relations with Israel, they are our ally. He needs to talk with him and they need to coordinate but your short sighted posts speak volumes about the agenda most republicans have.
If he hadn't done this- Obama is ruining our relations with Israel!
He does do it: "He didn't do anything significant."

Just move on, you have backed yourself into an undefensable corner, for all your pleading in the world about "How much you care about Israel" couldn't save you since the people in that country, the ones that are faced with the problems everyday, seem to come to their own conclusions.

    Move along.
