How many times do we have to explain it to you?
When Obama said you can keep your health care, he meant the plans you have at your work place, all of those plans meet minimum requirement.
The plans that get canceled are individuals buying plans in the open market. They have no leverage, the plans are sub-standard, they cover very little.
Why do you want to keep plans that are worse than the bronze plan and the catastrophic plan is beyond me.
If you have a major medical problem, you are hosed.

Actually what Rage said is true. The work place plans are saved and it is the independent plans that provided a bare minimum that are lost. Having said that, it is unfortunate those basic small coverage plans are no longer available.

In all fairness and with all the respect you know I have for you...bull****. My insurance I get through my employer will go up by 60% on January 1. Since it is group health coverage, pre-existing conditions weren't even a concern. They had to do away with my old plan and replace it with a more expensive ACA compliant plan.

I understand that there are some good protections in the law, but that is a lot of additional expense. There are people at my employer trying to decide whether they should just pay the penalty for not having insurance.

Don't piss on somebody's shoulder and tell them it is raining.

You don't have a lifetime cap on benefits and likely have a lower deductible too. The fact that you can claim "no positives" again speaks to your partisan nature.

Oh, BTW, we have seen less medical inflation under the ACA than before it, so one of your claimed "no positives" is wrong.

And I know of at least three employers whose costs are going down as a result of the ACA and they are passing those lowered costs onto their employees. They had a decent plan to start with, so it didn't have to be changed and the rebates saved them money.

Not "pissing" on anyone, just posting what I am seeing.

I work at a law firm with about 60 employees. We are part of a nationwide network of law firms. Nationwide, our rates are going up by 60% and a lot of the staff may no longer be able to afford the employee contribution. The firm picks up most of the cost, but the employee contribution has still skyrocketed. So, these employees may choose to pay the penalty. For these people and their families the reform law sure looks like a load of ****.

Our receptionist saw the numbers and said Affordable Care Act? Affordable for who? She is in her 50s and very scared about whether she can afford her insurance. The overhaul needs an overhaul.

I completely agree that we need to make ACA changes, there are plenty of ways it could be improved, but "repeal and replace" (with nothing, what the GOP has proposed) is not a viable option, it will not happen.

To that extent, I agree with Newt Gingrich. At a recent speaking engagement he stated that the onus falls on Republicans to propose a viable alternative. He spoke with visible disgust when he said that people should ask their Republican legislators what the alternative plan is. He said they will not have an answer and that must change.

Tallnover it is hell being poor. I am so sorry you can't afford decent insurance.

I hope one day you can find an employer who will give you benefits.

Have you checked healthcare. gov to see if you are eligible for a subsidy?

You missed the point. Tallnover had health insurance that he could afford. Due to the ACA, his insurance became unaffordable. He, in fact, could not keep his plan. Due to the ACA, his plan no longer exists and it was replaced by a plan that has coverage he does not need at a much greater cost.

In short, for him, the ACA had exactly the opposite effect from that which was promised.

Do any law firms in your network specialize in suing doctors for malpractice?

I'm not poor. I didn't want more insurance.

I can afford my new plan just fine. Just don't want it and don't need it. I had the plan I wanted. I can afford a Rolls Royce, but I don't want that either.

I guess it just depends. The costs at my firm went down by a large amount 40%).
