Ummm. Compulsory, sort of like education is for middle schoolers? Think of it as homework. Many private schools and colleges require service projects for graduation. Quite a few western, modern countries have compulsory military training. What is the big deal again? And who cares, I'm an adult. They can force my (unborn) kids to build roads and I'm all for it. It'll teach 'em some discipline! I remember when public service was a conservative value... my how times they are a changin'!
