If you've ever worked in publishing very long at all you would know that it is common place to endorse books without knowing the person or book being endorsed. In turn your book may be endorsed as a return favor.

I'm not saying that's what happened. But it doesn't prove any kind of real link.

Also as has been pointed out, it certainly doesn't provide any link to terrorist or other illegal activities.

    basso,

Do you believe that William Annenberg was a terrorist sympathizer?

LOL - asking him what he actually "believe" is a lost cause at this point.

Not sure why you guys engage him in this fashion. Just do what I do, wait for him to make a mistake or screw-up or contradict himself, which he usually does, then embarrass him to a point where even he can't acknowledge it. It usually results in a sulk and a few lame song lyrics.

You think that is bad try giving all your money to terrorist countries for gas and oil EVERYDAY!

McCain had 26 years to get away from this crap , did it happen? NO!

So when you go into the terrorism field just remember neither one of them are willing to protect our country from the ports that are not checked.

Capitalism before security..... this whole dam country is UNPATRIOTIC and are funding the terrorists.

I realize this is an indictment on the American lifestyle but to damn bad!

    basso,

What the weathermen wanted have nothing to do with Obama.

Unless the girl who faked the attack on herself is Ayer's daughter or something, and even then it still is more about McCain.

Next time you do Special College Republican Ops in Pennsylvania, remember that line. If a dumb student carves it backwards, at least it would still say something.

more from the "now they tell us" files. is there a functional difference between "paling around" and being family friends?

[rquoter]“We had served together on the board of a foundation, knew one another as neighbors and family friends, held an initial fund-raiser at my house, where I’d made a small donation to his earliest political campaign,” he writes.

But right-wing commentators tried to use those connections to smear Obama, he says.

“Obama’s political rivals and enemies apparently saw an opportunity to deepen a dishonest narrative about him, that he is somehow un-American, alien, linked to radical ideas, a closet terrorist, a sympathizer with extremism,” Ayers wrote.[/rquoter]

I hope the Republican strategy in 2012 is to play the Bill Ayers card again!

They knew eachother, and I'm sure they were cordial with one another. They were neighbors (didn't Jesus say to "Love they Neighbor"?). Their children went to school with each other and were perhaps friendly with one another. Obama, at least based on his rhetoric, believes in engaging in civil, cordial discourse with others who have opposing views. All of that, to me, could be described as them being "family friends". Who knows how close or personal that friendship is.

But what did Palin actually say? He "pals around with terrorists". First, it's a really stretch to call Bill Ayers at the current stage in his life a "terrorist". And if we want to say he engaged in terrorism decades ago, it must be further qualified as a particularly weak form of "terrorism". Anybody who resorts to violence to make a political statement could be called a terrorist by those who oppose their politics. Honestly, I don't know if there is a more abused word in American politics over the last 30 years than the word "terrorism".

Second, I could say I'm family friends with someone I only met on a couple occasions in a cordial setting. Saying I'm "paling around" with them implies a more personal bond.

Third, Palin said "terrorists" -- plural. Even accepting the idea that Ayers can be defined today as a terrorist, Palin apparently knows of multiple such terrorists that Obama "pals around" with. Who are they?
