Shovel Face: I had the impression you were a libertarian? I thought you'd be letting out a sigh of relief at no new funding for NASA.

If true, this too f'n funny. Clutchfans' very own libertardian warrior is really a government subsidized little piggy sucking at the federal teat.

The cognitivie dissonance must be overwhelming.

This is not a principled stance on government spending, intrusion and waste from Obama. That I could admire.

What kills me is the Houston Liberal's love of a $800 billion stimulus, and their love of the death of Houston's Johnson Space Center and manned spaceflight when it needs support the most - just becuase Obama says so.

Why don't you just tell us the real truth behind your motivation:

    1) your parents work for NASA as you have previously posted;
    2) you live in their basement

Would you be agreeable to Texan Ron Paul's principled stance on spending with regards to space programs then?

I hear you, but the budget is substantial. Seriously, I know a bit about this. Reorganize, focus your staffing and scientific lines on the problems you want to solve and do what you can with your existing budget. That is not crazy.

The space station is such a clusterfudge that the sooner it is put out of its misery the better. I'm sure that's a majority opinion, scientifically and in terms of new technology innovation (which it never was.) Focus on a new generation of spacecraft and figure out an exit strategy on the space station, the Iraq of NASA programs.

It's in my Houston blood. It would be no different than Obama killing the Rockets and the "BOOFs" (Barack Obama Only Fans) cheering him on.

Did he say that or did you read my post? Both of my parents as well as my stepfather worked for NASA or their contractors for quite a long time. My mom is still at NASA.

In case you didn't read it or comprehend what was written, I will say it again simply.

Obama is not reducing funding for NASA.

NASA will continue to do its work.

A lack of a funding increase does not equal Obama killing NASA.

    Which part don't you understand?

The thing is, we can have both and will have both under Obama's budget. NASA is not receiving a cut in funding, so they can continue to do most of the things they are doing now. A couple of years down the line, when the budget looks better, we can increase funding again at which point Constellation and Ares become viable again.

The infrastructure improvements need to happen now because they will have a much more immediate impact on the job market.

This is about human space exploration BEO and Houston/JSC. And NASA's work should not be about monitoring Earth's climate. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

How can they continue to do what they do now without the space shuttle? It ends this year.

We have been continuing to do much of what we do with extremely limited space shuttle flights for years. We will continue to get men and materiel to the ISS on Soyuz capsules and Hubble has just been upgraded, so should be OK for a couple of years.

When the economy turns around, I have no doubt that NASA will get the funding for Constellation, but right now it just isn't the right thing to increase funding for NASA at a time when every other government agency is going through a spending freeze.

It truly sucks and will delay many things with regards to the space program, but it will not destroy NASA.
