I'm sure that's the reason why there wasn't a single JSC / NASA supporter posting on this topic.

dont agree with privatizing NASA but private competition with NASA is a good thing (see above post)

That was a bit extreme on my part I admit. I think that much of the funding sent NASA's way should be reappropriated towards stimulating private enterprise in the field. It is a bloated and mismanaged agency because there is no competition to do it better from anywhere else. It'll never happen of course, because just like anyone else Texans hate Gubmint waste unless the Feds are doing it here.

Cuz they need a positive narrative. I kind of suspected that's why they put off so much of the spending. This way the Dems have lots to brag about going into November 2010. It's right on their minds when they vote. Kind of like issuing a check from the government for "tax rebates" a few months before an election.

I think the USA is not a good candidate for high speed rails. We are a country built on cars and freedom. Also we have a strong history of human space flight, to dump it is just a shame.

(Before someone jumps down my throat, I am aware manned space flight and slavery are not even remotely related, but the logic of keeping something just because "we have a strong history of it" is what is being pointed out here...)

Obama did not zero out the NASA budget, their budget is flat. We are not dumping the space program, we just aren't throwing more money at it right now, which seems to be prudent given the current budgetary issues.

For ShovelFace, I am about as close as you can get to being a NASA fanboy, my mother works for NASA, my stepfather retired from there after being with the agency since the Apollo program, and my father worked in the aerospace industry for two decades. I fully support NASA, but I am still able to understand that we cannot simply increase NASA's budget when there are so many other priorities these days.

    Mr. Meowgi

How many space shuttles could we have produced with those road signs?

I didn't think it was possible, but Shovel Face has managed to troll/derail his own thread. (which, despite its lack of depth, actually did have *some* merit to it... well, at least until Shovelie started posting in it)

I was going to point out the huge holes in your craptastic analogy but what is the point when you already admit they suck?

Spend 8 billion on updating technology infrastructure. I bet 8 billion would buy a nice roll of optical cable.
