It was amazing. Also got to see Beck play a show in a tent...taking requests. And i believe, if I recall correctly, that Radiohead played CREEP, tinman I know they played Planet Telex for the first time in a while...
Did you ever attend Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas? Sadly, they stopped running it this past year. Vegoose had more electronica than most other festivals.
you know that the Killers are big Oasis fans right??? MR BRIGHTSIDE?? I missed out on Vegoose I had a chance to go once.
I didn't know that. In truth, I'm not that big of a fan of The Killers though since I wasn't the person who originally signed up this account. My co-worker and I shared this account for a year or two and then I took over it. I'm more of an indie rock guy. Not really that huge of a fan of either Radiohead or Oasis, but I did think "In Rainbows" was a masterpiece. I really haven't been that interested about Oasis up until that point when I heard that fellow in Toronto pushed Noel off the stage which caused the cancellation of the rest of their North American tour.
Wonderful. I recall writing about *my* opinion about the two bands, but thanks for the input. Of course music doesn't have to be complicated. Hank Williams and Muddy Waters wrote the simplest songs, but they were brilliant. A current band like the Kills write deceptively simple and sexy songs, but they are great. There's a lot of ways to skin a cat. The thread was not about whether Oasis has any merit as a band, the thread is comparing the two bands, right? The point about Radiohead is that they outclass Oasis because they are not only more musically adventurous, but they are also more relevant. Radiohead actually speak to how a lot of people live right now. Also, having seen them both in concert a number of times, Radiohead kicks their ass up and down. They rock harder, the songs are more exciting and the fans are more into the show. It's not even close. To me Oasis are like Sha Na Na. I say this as an informed listener of Oasis. I have every one of their albums and all of their B-sides through "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants." At some point, they just got boring. Every time they tried to stretch their wings artistically, it turned out horribly ( I mean, have you heard "Little James" or "Gas Panic?" That's just embarrassing), so to keep the ball rolling they've had to become just another plodding Dad rock band. It's no big deal, but it's one big reason Radiohead are better. Oasis were great when they started out because they seemed fresh and unapologetic about being rock stars (even before they were). In 1994 that seemed wonderful since so much of pop music was downbeat. The myth and swagger of rock and roll is fine, but it's old hat if that's all you do. It's especially old hat for guys in their 40's who have kids and have been around with the same sound forever. Again, it was cool when they started out. So was "Satisfaction." Just as the Stones lost something along the way, so have Oasis. I still check out Oasis because I'm old and I like music that reminds me of my youth. That's the basis of most Oasis songs these days, too. The songs don't mean a thing. They are just set pieces for a string of references that remind them of some notion of rock and roll. Why should I take Oasis anymore seriously then they take themselves?
Good. Put it this way, out of all the famous songs Aerosmith's put out, both Slash and James Hetfield (is that spelled right?) said that "Nobody's Fault" was their favorite Aerosmith song. Rocks and the Scorpions Animal Magnetism- just can't get enough of those 2 CDs. Oh, is this Oasis vs. Radiohead debate still going on?
Carl Landry gets shot by a gun, and you fifteen year old, Adidas wearing, Radiohead obsessed Thom Yorke lickers start a thread about Thom Yorke and his music? Dudes, this will solve your problem. Buy a Beatles poster and cut Oasis' faces off your Oasis poster, and stick on the Beatles Poster. Problem solved.
Carl Landry recounted the ordeal beginning with the vehicle collision that starts it off, explaining, "An Airbag saved my life"
this thread has caused so many musical discussions of many eras of music. We have Aerosmith and Van Halen, the Verve, Muse etc People telling of their concert experiences It's great, that's why its 9 pages. Nobody here is stalking people either
