Alreet dude, first off you don't know me. Second of all, I know some of the memebers of Verve, personally, so I know all about their 'istory and such. Way back in early 95 when Oasis were in H-town I took Liam G and Bonehead to Mc Donald's to get food for the band, not to get too high and mighty on you!! On Oasis, you're about 10 years or so late on that train, they should have quit after Morning Glory! And Liams mannerisims come mostly from Ian Brown of the Stone Roses and Bobby G. from the Primal Scream.

Here is a myspace site I run of live Verve stuff I have recorded as well as other live tunes. It also has pics of me w/them in NYC from last year.

On the orignal debate, I would say that at least RH put out albums that continue to push foward and grow and Oasis' stuff is stale and stagnant.

I bought the new Verve Album, its good. Richard Ashcroft seems to be a nice guy who wouldn't disappoint his fans.

I know it was. In 1998. I was just saying that they played Karma Police...their second most popular song.

Music is subjective. It's all about what YOU like. I just think that your examples of why Radiohead is inferior are pretty off base and not true. Just about every fan of Radiohead (as in people that will actually pay to see them in concert) would more than likely choose 25 other songs over Creep.

I don't care if you prefer Oasis, or if anyone does...I think Oasis made two amazing albums then a bunch of crap, but that's just my opinion. But you said that Thom Yorke just stands around all melancholy, which couldn't be further from the truth and that their concerts have a "depressed kid" vibe, which also couldn't be further from the truth. I was at the show in 98, and the vibe there was very up and the band played an amazing set list and played with energy. Of course an Oasis show is going to be more up-tempo, their music is more up-tempo. But it's funny that their lead singer stands in the same spot with two hands behind his back the entire time ;)

If you don't have the other 3 Verve albums you should get them, post haste! From some of your other comments I would guess you will like Urban Hymns most, it's the most straight foward. For me the first 2, A Storm in Heaven and A Northern Soul are in my top 10 ATF's, they are that good!

And not to self-promote too much but all of you who like both RH and Oasis should check out my band, Inner Lights http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=380745544.

We are putting out our first Ep and having a release party at Catus on Friday March 27 at 5:30, and there will be free beer! We are also playing the Free Press fest the next day, we open up the thing, playing inside at #'s at high noon.

Yeah, but I didn't get to see them until last year. I tried in '03 at Glastonbury, but ended up spending the money to go to Dublin for St Paddy's.

I have listened to The Bends. I've heard all their albums. I honestly think In Rainbows is my favorite. Ok Computer and The Bends are up there as well.

Quick story. I was into this bartender who was that fan who is being stereotyped here. Real pretentious. She asked if I liked them almost as a measure of my coolness. I mentioned Creep and she got all snooty on me. Feeling ignorant I went and checked out their newest at the time, Amnesiac. I gave it a chance, but couldn't see what she saw. I thought it was mostly trash. That was the end of my Radiohead experiment for a time.

Later I kept hearing about Ok Computer and checked it out. I was hooked. That thing was aweseom. My favorite track was Subterranean Homesick Alien. After that I checked out The Bends and was equally impressed. I later checked out the other stuff and enjoyed it all as well.

After a long time, I decided to give Amnesiac another listen. After being warmed up with the earlier stuff, I had a new appreciation for that one. Didn't fall in love with it, but there were some tracks I really dug. As it stands, Knives Out is my favorite track from them.

I do like Oasis and probably have listened to more of their stuff than the casual fan, but I have to go with Radiohead. I will acknowledge some of their fans are the Coachella too cool for school types, but not all of them. I know there are plenty out there who just enjoy their stuff and aren't suicidal.

Sorry for the long story, but it felt relevant.

hey, i met princess margaret once, before a show at earl's court. we weren't allowed to turn our backs to her, nor could we speak to her unless she spoke to us first. i remember her being a lot of fun tho.

and i say, with no small measure of pride, that i could not name a single song by either Oasis or Radiohead.

A friend of mine went to RH at the pavillion w/ us last year, he is more a fan of Creep than Radiohead, in fact I'd venture to say it's the only song he knew by them. I thoroughly enjoyed telling him they ALWAYS closed their shows with an encore of Creep and watching him be like WTF when they didn't come back out and play it.

Personally, I got on board with Radiohead when a coworker in probably '02 gave me a copy of OK Computer after he found out we had some of the same tastes in music. After putting it in the player the first time I doubt I made it through two songs before I was sure it sucked and wasn't for me. Much later, after I was terribly tired of everything in my CD Album, I decided to give it another listen: today, I have a hard time believing anyone makes better music than them.

I even like Pablo Honey, Creep included, though I admit it is not like their other stuff.

Anyway, I hope I didn't rob my friend of the ability to enjoy the show but I seriously doubt he has it in him anyway. I mean he feels the same way about Matchbox 20 as I feel about RH, Tool, MMJ or Mars Volta!

I bet we both find Oasis has some catchy tunes though.... Where were you while we were getting high?

I saw Radiohead open up for REM twice in 1995 on their "Monster" tour. Radiohead played all of "The Bends." Some people were mad that they didn't play "Creep." I saw them play the Aerial Theater a few years later on their "Ok Computer" tour. A certain percentage of people were upset that they didn't play enough songs from "The Bends." Tinman was evidentally traumatized that he didn't get to hear "Karma Police" in 2000. Mean old Thom Yorke!

The point through all of this is that Radiohead keeps moving forward. "In Rainbows" is up there with anything they have ever made. Nobody, not even Ma Gallagher thinks that "Heathen Chemistry" is on par with their best work. Oasis are like the Rolling Stones have been for the last 30 years. Radiohead constantly challenge themselves and their audience. I'll take that over a band that has coasted on their first two records (and by generally ripping off the Beatles) for over a decade.

I saw that tour, too! Never heard anything from them except Creep- song was OK, but nothing great. When I saw them live, and heard "Fake Plastic Trees," I remember thinking- "wow- something is different about this group"- in a good way. I had a feeling they would be special, just didn't know how much.

Only other time I felt that about a band I didn't know was this group called The Call who opened up for Simple Minds in the 80s (I think it was at Southern Star Amphitheater- which was also the first place I saw REM- for the Life's Rich Pageant tour- 2nd row- ROCKED!!). The Call didn't turn out to be as big as I thought they would, but Radiohead did (Call is still a great band- Reconciled is an excellent album).

Lofl. I am a huge Radiohead fan and I'm a Coachella veteran. I assure you though, I am not suicidal. Though I am too cool for school. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I've been meaning to go to that show. It looks like a great time and the line-ups are usually pretty good, but I was checking out a forum for the concert and a lot of those kids are little pretentious douches.

I still plan on going, but will probably wait until next year, this year's line-up didn't impress me much.

I'm not a big aerosmith fan. I like dream on and a select other few hits but admittedly I've never heard too many songs other than what they play on the radio. Van Halen's in my top 5, so this is a rather easy vote for me.

I like Van Hagar too, and heck there's a couple songs on III that aren't bad either.

As far as albums go, Van Halen II is slightly overrated, I think Fair Warning is their best cd and has by far Eddie's best guitar work, blows my mind everytime I listen to it. Unchained, When Push Comes To Shove, Hear About It Later, Mean Streets... he owned that album.

Music doesn't have to be complicated man. If you can make songs that sound good and get people off then that's just as relevant as whatever it is that makes Radiohead "challenging."

Your response is classic "guy who doesn't listen to oasis but can read about them in rolling stone." I'm a monster beatles fan, noel gallagher has ripped off his share but oasis has never sounded like the freaking beatles, or attempted to. Heathen Chemistry is a piece of **** record but after the first 2, there's 4 other albums that contain some great music and a collection of b-sides that blow away morning glory.

I don't need to be challenged every time I put in a cd.

the B-sides are amazing. They released some in the US under the album "The Masterplan"

Why the hell "Whatever" was not on there makes no sense to me.

but I'm glad they play them in concert.
