That they had the good sense to cut a bad investment early in the game for once.

Well, that's a start. I'll give you that. I don't think they'll really get things turned around until someone puts ole' dirty Al out to pasture. Here's hoping it happens sooner than later.

....I'm a Texans season ticket holder so I don't have much room to talk.

All we as the fans ask is that he hire a GM and stop trying to micromanage the game as he's always done.

His methods are getting too outdated.

His methods were old and outdated 10 years ago, maybe yall could give Charley Casserly a call... kidding. The problem is no one wants to work for him, and sadly as long as he's running things they won't be considered a credible organization.

My one memory of Jamarcus was after the Texans-Raiders game last season.
I was there to interview Nnamdi Asomugha and after the game I'm watching the players come into the locker room from the field. Most of the Raiders players were either angry or sad at the loss(Nnamdi sat at his locker for about 30 mins just looking despondent while Gerard Warren was angry for a little bit), not Jamarcus, the quarterback of the team that just lost. He was yucking it up and just having a ball as soon as he got off the field(Not to say one should expect every player to take every loss in the season the same way but for a qb that didnt exactly play a great game to not even show any outward emotion that the loss stung was a surprise for me). I would have been more shocked if not for the fact that he'd been a mess of a qb and teammate the past couple of seasons.
    Good riddance!

now that we've seen the result, it was a terrible pick. but when he was drafted, a lot of organizations thought he had the "physical" tools to be an elite QB in the league, i mean he's 6'5 with a cannon of an arm.

no one knew he was this terrible.

Yeah but only Oakland had him rated as a top 10 pick. There were lots of reports about him having motivational issues coming out of LSU.

But when you can throw the ball 60 yards while on your knees, the Sea Monster gets excited

Green Bay used to carry a 3rd string QB used only for hail mary heaves. Aside from that, a coach with some balls probably thinks he can mold the guy. He'll get signed.

Unless, other QBs, get hurt, he would be called for emergency, but I dont think he is going to be in the NFL too much, I think he will play in the AFL

    Raiders file grievance against Russell

Russell was benched for most of the second half of last season.
    (Kirby Lee/US Presswire)

The Oakland Raiders have filed a grievance against former quarterback JaMarcus Russell(notes) seeking repayment of $9.55 million, the team confirmed Thursday.

The grievance is based on the contention by the Raiders that the contract was changed at one point during Russell’s three-year stint with the organization and that he’s not allowed to keep all of the money he had collected prior to his May 7 release. Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft, was guaranteed $32 million as part of a six-year contract reportedly worth $68 million.

“We have filed a grievance against JaMarcus Russell and that’s all we’re going to say at this time,” Raiders attorney Jeff Birren said.

Part of the guaranteed $32 million was originally in the form of salary advances for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. A portion of those salaries is in question, according to the grievance.

“The money in question was fully guaranteed. That is why JaMarcus was forced to hold out and miss all of training camp as a rookie,” Metz said. “The Raiders know that and this is our only comment.”

Russell will be represented in the grievance by the NFL Players Association.

Not surprising; this is the same organization that tried to recoup money against Lane Kiffin.

The same organization still owes money to Mike Shanahan, I believe. Right?
