Has ESPN, or any of its employees, ever openly (as in, not in round-about way) criticized a pick before? Or made predictions of someone's ultimate failure? It's almost taboo, or like they're not even allowed to.

that't not really saying much as Carr hasn't shown much to show he deserves to stay in the league.

Not necessarily. Kiper and McShay had drastically different views on the QBs this year. Kiper loved Clausen; McShay hated him. They were on opposite sides about Dan LeFevour as well. I think McShay said that LeFevour would never start a game ever.

As far as openly bash somebody, I remember Jay Bilas said during the 2004 NBA Draft that Josh Smith was going to be the biggest bust out of all the high school kids. Oops.

Kiper's comments about Denver drafting Tebow were about as close as it came to open criticism. Kiper was ripping into McDaniels pretty good, and rightfully so.

From the very beginning I thought he would be a bust. When the Raiders drafted him #1, it became his destiny. But I guess a great bowl game and pro day are worth a lot of money sometimes.

I thought NFL teams were supposed to thoroughly evaluate the mentality and psyche of players. Maybe the Raiders don't. But Russell was known to be lazy and not a hard worker. Whatever the physical talent, he clearly didn't have between the ears what it takes to be a successful starting NFL QB.

The question that I've had from the beginning is how far Jamarcus Russell would have fallen if the Raiders hadn't drafted him.

Another reason why drafting a QB in the first round is the equivalent of playing Russian roulette.

ALthough I am loathe to defend MK Jr, since I kind of hate him, in fairness he said he could be a top 5 qb if he developed, and not that he was the next John Elway, but that he had the same physical tools.

At this point, it's definitely not unbelievable. It is a damn shame though that he didn't give a damn about having a pro career and actually using his talent to take a team to the playoffs.

I think he'll sign with the Ottawa Rough Riders. Or maybe the Vancouver Rough Riders.

This would be fun to take out of context.

Draft experts aren't GMs. It isn't their job to know who is going to make it in the pros. Kiper's job is to get people to keep the channel on ESPN, and to reasonably guess where draft picks are going to fall.

The worst thing about watching the footage of the Raiders drafting Jamarcus is seeing Mel's "Best available" players scroll down after a while and the names are Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson :(

Finally, they have decided to ship that lazy, obese theif out of town. Kudos

Jamarcus, I hope you blow every dollar you stole and end up broke (much like other people who refuse to work)

Go figure that a QB that wasn't any good in college wouldn't be any good in the NFL. But, he can throw it 80 yards, so that's pretty cool, I guess. I understand drafting potential, but not with the top 10 picks in the draft. But, that the hell do I know, I thought Orlando was taking too big a risk drafting Dwight Howard instead of a "sure thing" like Emeka Okafor.

Hindsight is 20/20, but Russell had a pretty good last season at LSU, at least he played well in the big games, but what really skyrocketed his stock was the trouncing of a sloppy Notre Dame Defense in the bowl game. Of course he lit up Notre Dame. The numbers were there, the measurables were there, he said a lot of the right things... then the kid holds out until well into his rookie season which sets back his development a full year. He goes into the 2008 season basically as a rookie and plays decent football in half the games, even orchestrates a 3 game winning streak to end the season, so there is a genuine optimism in the organization that he is well on his way to being a good QB.

Last season was just an abomination, He showed up overweight, he didn't put in any effort required of a player in a position of ultimate leadership, and it showed on the field with his piss-poor performance. His accuracy was unbelievably bad. Pretty much the worst QB performance in a season of all time, right up there with Ryan Leaf and Alex Smith's rookie campaigns.

I'm honestly shocked Al Davis is swallowing his pride and admitting fault this early into Russell's career.

    Gotta cut your loses.

68% completion, 28 TDs and 8 picks his senior year in a major BCS conference, for a powerhouse school, on a successful team?

I never agreed with #1 pick, but it's crazy to say he wasn't any good in college.
