I think you should be able to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Maybe you don't want to serve a murderer. Maybe you hate white people. Maybe you only want to serve chicks with big t***. Losing business should be the consequence, not lawsuits.
Please inform the BBS as to why you are incapable of understanding the difference between discriminating against a murderer and discriminating against blacks. You do realize that discrimination has its place in society. I'm not talking about racial discrimination, but rather discrimination in general. For instance, I discriminate against registered sex offenders when I choose where to live. I discriminate against people who can't type when I choose a secretary. I discriminate against rabid dogs when I choose a pet. How is a restaurant owner discriminating against a known murderer any different than these accepted forms of discrimination? This guy's business is going to BOOM based on this publicity, not shrink, as some around here seem to think. That's because most of us are able to differentiate between discriminating based on a status as a murderer and that of race. At worst the guy loses the OJ sympathizers' business in Louisville, Kentucky. Hey, those three people can find a new place to eat.
If the stadium was totally privately funded, then yes. I also think they would go under because nobody would stand for it. I know I wouldn't attend a game if the team was discriminating like that. If the stadium was built with public funds like most, then they should not be allowed to refuse service to anyone unless they do something to break the rules (streaking or something).
= Matt 9:10-12 9:10 And as he sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and were sitting with him and his disciples. 9:11 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 9:12 But when he heard this, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
That's a nice passage from the Bible. The reason it doesn't mention murderers sitting next to Jesus is because they had already been stoned to death. Nice try though.
They are showing the owner of the restaurant on Fox News now. Greta Van Susteran and I totally agreed with the guy. OJ's a lowlife. He should be in jail right now.
Yeah, I think he mentioned something about that later on. Plus they had to pay taxes on those stones so I believe they hated tax collectors more (kind of like today).
OJ won't win a case becuase Justice is meaningly .. . people don't like him that is enough to deny him justice in a civil case it is that simple. . . if the jury does not like you . . you don't win If he gets a Semi Valley jury . . . it is over Rocket River
Making the comparison between refusing service to OJ (because of his past) and refusing service to an ethnic group are NOT the same thing. Although private establishments are mostly allowed to choose with whom they do business, federal anti-discrimination laws do not allow them to refuse service based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age and/or disability. So as long as the restaurant owner didn't kick out OJ because he doesn't like fifty-something African-American male Christians (assuming on the religion) with some minor knee problems, he's well within his rights. Hopefully, some of the lawyers on the BBS can explain this in more detail.
greta van susteran is a huge biotch , and her disgusting face lift makes her look worst than before. she and nancy grace get on my nerves. anyhow, i believe the owner was well within his right to not serve OJ. i do think it was wrong and i hope the guy loses business over it. OJ was acquitted. if people keep insisting on call him a murder, then i guess KObe is rapist.
Ive never understtod this part of American culture - and I thank heaven every day we dont have that in Australia. Whats the reasoning behind it? Are wages just ridicolously low or what? tipping is just a nice thing to do here, bt by no means compulsory like it is over there. after having the WORST coffee off my life a couple of years back (bitter as hell) on Venice Beach, the big burly guy at the joke of a cafe' harassed us all the way to the counter (we always intended to give the tip but had to break a note first). It was like the mafia shadowing us!! when we slid his 10.0% across the counter to him, he asked to see the Aussie $20 note he saw when i had opened my wallet. He was amazed by the colour (another thing, all your notes are green, thats so damn annoying and hard to tell the difference in a hurry when you need to. All Aussie notes are different colours) and held it like he wasnt giving it back. After the joke was about 30secs too old, and myself and my wife had almost decided to just cut our losses and leave minus the Aussie 20, he finally gives it back. thanks for the **** coffee.
Yes wages are that low. A lot of waiters and waitresses are paid less under the assumption they recoup the rest in the form of tips.
Id like to see anyone white, yellow, brown, or black, on the steps of heaven, proclaim OJ is innocent. People know OJ did it yet they continue to defend him as though it's a badge of honor. It's a complete disgrace. I would not only have kicked him out, id put a knife in front of him and ask if he wanted to do a re-enactment in front of witnesses.
Brightside, I apologize if this is something you already know; but here are four interesting, well known, American court cases that demonstrate pretty interesting flaws in our justice system: Emmett Till, Sacco & Vanzetti, Lizzie Borden, and Gideon v. Wainwright. It's worth noting that most Americans under 30 or 40 probably first learned about these cases in high school History or Government/Civics classes. I think that illustrates one of beauties of our system: that we're taught at an early age to both appreciate and question our institutions; both actions in the pursuit of higher ideals like justice, equality and freedom.
