    Basso;

    I always find it amazing how you'll blast the NYTimes and post pieces from such reputable unbiased sources as opinion.com without critical comment and then also post articles from the NYT when they agree with your specific viewpoint.

    For one you've already undercut the NYT so if you don't take them seriously why expect anyone else to take them seriously or even bother posting them?

    here's abit more anti-american "journalism" from reuters:

    "A Dutch woman who swears by a daily helping of herring for a healthy life celebrated her 115th birthday on Wednesday as the oldest living person on record.

    Hendrikje van Andel-Schipper, a former needlework teacher, was born in 1890, the year Sioux Indians were massacred by the U.S. military at the Battle of Wounded Knee."

    it's particularly gratuitous given what else was going on in Holland in 1890.

    Gee Basso, thanks for clarifying. I never knew that the Sioux Massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890 was a lie and never really happened. Damn HISD high school teachers!!! You learn something new on this BBS every day, I tell ya! :eek:

    I think you did.

    What is the target audience of the article? Most likely Americans. I doubt anyone in the US would know who the heck Queen Wilhelmina is?

    What other major even took place in 1890 that could give reference and relativity to her age? I guess you could say the Sherman Anti-Trust Act was signed into law, but that doesn't really give many people a frame of reference does it. Saying this woman was born when we were still fighting Indians certainly brings a sense of DANG THAT IS OLD!
