Nope, especially since the "biggest Democrat state in the union" is on the other side of the continent.

Knowledge is a means to an end. The poor and disenfranchised use it to level the playing field, economically and politically. But when you're richer, more powerful and more prosperous than everyone else? Not so much.

    1) I don't believe Kelly Pickler is as dumb as she showed on that tv show. I think she is playing that up for attention just like Simpson did.

    2) I don't believe the writer's story about the men in the bar.

Quarter of Brits think Churchill was Myth

Sun Feb 3, 7:12 PM ET

LONDON (AFP) - Britons are losing their grip on reality, according to a poll out Monday which showed that nearly a quarter think Winston Churchill was a myth while the majority reckon Sherlock Holmes was real.

The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth.

And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist.

Three percent thought Charles Dickens, one of Britain's most famous writers, is a work of fiction himself.

Indian political leader Mahatma Gandhi and Battle of Waterloo victor the Duke of Wellington also appeared in the top 10 of people thought to be myths.

Meanwhile, 58 percent thought Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Holmes actually existed; 33 percent thought the same of W. E. Johns' fictional pilot and adventurer Biggles.

UKTV Gold television surveyed 3,000 people.

I can sympathize with Ms. Pickler. While I don't think we are at a crisis of stupidity I do think there is a pretty large ignorant streak out there. As far as her story about the two guys at the bar who thought Pearl Harbor was when the Vietnamese attacked the US I can believe it. I've met some pretty dumb@ss people in all parts of the US of all age groups. I dated someone once who couldn't figure out how I could be both Chinese and Asian.

I don't think this is always the case. In general the more well off people I've met tend to be more knowledgeable as they have had access to better education. They might not be smarter or have more common sense, but in terms of raw facts generally know more. For someone who's poor they might be very smart but generally have to work harder to get access to good education that someone who's well off might just get because they can afford it.

But the particular question was one from the THIRD grade level. They pose questions ranging from first grade level to fifth grade level.
