Maliki and Talabani have no power without U.S. support, their opponents know this and so will never reconcile with the Iraqi government. They will wait for the United States to leave and make their power grab. The various militias already run Iraq right now, in those places that US military isn't present in large numbers, and militias aren't known for their propensity for finding political common ground.

Um, yeah, but "we" created the situation where "they" need it and we can't really leave until it happens. I do not advocate leaving before there is at least some sort of politicial solution.
