Even during the 2000 presidential election I wasn't this worried about the fate of our country/democracy.

I'd make a 9/11 comparison, but it's apples and oranges.

I don't know what to say. I'm honestly scared.

LOL, wow, you should probably seek help. I find that unhinged mentality has infected far too many of our friends on the left and it just reinforces the need for better mental health treatment in this country.

    I don't know.

I trace this all the way back to the Clinton impeachment.

At that point, the politics in Washington really moved to another level.

You saw the complete stone walling of Obama, and now efforts to stone wall Trump by the opposition party.

You saw the usurpation of power by GW Bush and then Obama and now Trump.

Starting with the election of GW Bush you saw an active and organized resistance that can continued through Obama and Trump as well.

Presidents started appointing younger Justices, not based on merit but age.

The Bush v. Gore decision where you had a President that did not get the most votes elected, followed up in 2016 and you have more people questioning the political system........ same with Russian interference and views of the media, and the proliferation of biased partisan media sources.

I'm not saying everything is collapsing, but it certainly has been stretched and I do not see it suddenly changing.

Look no further than the way the Republicans handled Garland, and now the democrats are not giving an inch on Kavanaugh. This is going to be the now norm........ the Republicans are going to return the favor, and the Democrats will counter...... everything comes to a creeping halt.

Further the election of Trump has changed the playing field for who is and isn't electable..... lets see if the floodgates open.

Abortion..... women's rights......... gun control ........ these are all topics that will not be compromised on by either side, if for no other reason than there are election consequences.

This isn't a good time for the country for anyone.

I’m way more worried about if the Rockets can swing a deal for Jimmy Butler.

I do agree that things have gotten more and more ridiculous over the last 20+ years but they are at the most ridiculous levels ever right now. You just had a poster suggest that a president firing a cabinet member is comparable to 9-11 but different....you have politically active leftists outright lying to try and delay a SCOTUS nomination.....I mean it's reached pathology at this point.

I'm not sure how it gets any better, but it's getting to the point where I miss the days when the "Obama is a Kenyan Muslim" and the "Bush is Hitler" people were as extreme as it got.

The tribalism and the post-fact world stuff doesn't bother me.

That's been par for the course for a while.

The difference used to be that, despite all that, we had adult patriots in the seats of power who respected the rule of law.

That is gone now. There is a legitimate concern that the executive branch is trying to dismantle the checks and balances on itself.

This is not OK. This is not normal. This is how a democracy fails.

The highlighted part is not accurate at all. What you mean to say is that "There is a belief among unhinged left wing wackjobs that the executive branch is trying to dismantle the checks and balances on itself by doing things obviously within their authority"

Attacks on the free press. Attacks on the Justice Dept. Not okay.

I'm still not sure which concerns me more, that people inside the administration are working to control the President or that the President requires it.

Did you have a problem with "attacks on the free press" when it was Obama attacking FoxNews or is it just now that left leaning media sources are being hit for pushing fake news?

Attacks on the justice department? Surely you are talking about how those within the department attacked the credibility of the department with their proven biased partisan actions right?

You guys are so ridiculous these days that you make "Never Trump" people seem like Trump supporters for simply not being completely blind with their hatred of the president.

This whole situation has been extremely strange.

It's either a case of really bad reporting, or a deliberate headfake by the Trump admin.

The timing with the Kavanaugh stuff makes it hard to believe it's coincidence too.

Papa Bear taking one for the team. Although I'm not sure that firing the DAG would do anything but blow the Senate wide open for Democrats.

In the grand scheme though, getting that SC seat is priority #1.

Gee... if Senator Collins only knew of a group of people that could act as a check against something like this happening. They might even call this group "the Senate."

Corrected for accuracy. If Rosenstein is all that stands between us and a future where 45 can follow his every illegal, Constitution-trampling instinct, then I'll choose to support Rosenstein.

If we had a functional legislative branch of government, none of us would have to worry as much, but we most definitely do not.

Probably a good time for republicans to tell us how unethical Democrats are...
