It will have to be next year because sure won't be this year. From tonight's game in GS... RT @HowardBeckNYT Tracy McGrady will not return because of sore knee, according to Warriors PR person.
Man, it is just sad to watch the guy even try to run and play. He looks bad. He has had flashes of his former self but he looks bad, not healthly and even close to 80%. he will need to understand that. He is no longer helping the team, he can't score, he can't move defensivly and he doesn't give a damn about the game.
WOW. NY Knicks, D'Antoni already done with T-Mac http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/not_big_on_mac_qGbcJbQ7Fymv3am3RACuPN Some interesting quotes OAKLAND, Calif. -- Though the final decision belongs to Knicks team president Donnie Walsh, coach Mike D'Antoni feels it would be prudent to move on without Tracy McGrady next season, according to team sources. D'Antoni has seen McGrady labor for 21 games, averaging 8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. And last night McGrady, who said he experienced swelling in his left knee for the first time this season, was shut down by the medical staff at halftime after looking miserable -- 1-for-4, three points -- in the Knicks' 128-117 loss to the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena. APSTILL HURTIN': Tracy McGrady drives against the Warriors' Reggie Williams during the Knicks' 128-117 loss last night. McGrady scored three points and sat out the second half because of his sore left knee. David Lee (37 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 assists) had the first triple-double for the Knicks (26-49) since Latrell Sprewell had 28 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a double overtime win over the Magic on Feb. 28, 2003. Lee also became the first player to have at least 30 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a game since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 35, 20 and 12 against the Warriors on March 5, 1976. The team source said D'Antoni feels McGrady has too far to go in his comeback to be counted on next season as an important piece of a rotation the coach expects to be massively improved. If the Knicks sign a wing player with a maximum contract, either LeBron James or Joe Johnson, re-signing McGrady as a rotation player, even at the $1.9 million veteran minimum's salary, seems highly doubtful because of his injury risk. D'Antoni denied he has ruled out McGrady for next season, saying it is too early to predict next season's roster with too many unknown factors because of their massive amount of cap space. D'Antoni acknowledged McGrady is not a priority, however. When McGrady joined the club in February, D'Antoni expected him to be their best player. D'Antoni and Walsh have not discussed the final evaluation of McGrady, and the Knicks president said McGrady is on their radar for 2010-2011 at the right price. "Maybe he can't be the guy, but I think he can be one of the top guys on a team," Walsh said earlier this week. "At least by what he's saying, [he can accept it], and I believe what he's saying. The way he's come into the locker room, everything's been very good." McGrady still carries himself like a superstar and talks like a superstar, telling The Post Wednesday he will be a "great player" again. By contrast, McGrady also has said he would love to remain a Knick if they sign two max guys and be a role player. "It takes a while to get back. I agree with them, and I don't have it now," McGrady said, referring to the skeptics. "That's why it's a great sign for me to know I will be back to being explosive, to being the type of player I was. I came back quicker than a lot of people expected. It's a great sign to where I was, to where I am now, to how my body feels and knee feels." When asked if it sounds like he's putting lots of pressure on himself, McGrady said, "I'm not putting pressure on myself. I know I'll be there again. I'll be a great player. I'll be able to have an influence on a team, on a game." The Knicks have given McGrady everything he wants -- a chance to audition for the NBA. They even allowed his personal bodyguard, Harveaire Berrien, to travel with the club and be in their locker room -- a privilege reserved for the game's elite. I don't know how can he say things he has said. And it is no secret to me that D'Antoni may be tired of it. You have a guy who acts like he is Kobe, he barely scores 10 points a game on bad % and wants to be a starter and you don't know what you are gonna get out of him night in night out. Every other coach wouldn't even listen to him and sit his a$$ and just wait for his contract to expire. Because right now, he CAN'T PLAY.
“There’s no question I will be an All-Star,” McGrady said. “Not right now, but next year when I come into the season, I will be an All-Star-caliber player, there’s no question.” “I’m fighting back,” he said. “Whether I’ll be the player that I once was, that remains to be seen. But I’m striving for it.” CONTRADICTION? “If I was healthy, that team right there could have done something special in the playoffs,” McGrady said wistfully. “But for me to be injured and sit out and watch my team advance destroyed me. Destroyed me. I’m not even going to lie. I was hurt, man.” This is the main reason why I feel that TMac playing hurts our team.
As much as I'd love to see McG return to his all-star form and prove all the haters wrong, it just ain't gon' happen. It's beyond me why he's so determined to make himself look like a jackass with all these crazy predictions. Hubris, my mayne, karma'll get ya messing with that.
What T'Mac means is that he's going to coast for the rest of the year ... so don't expect him to play hard, play defense, or play long minutes.
If I was on that team last year...I swear, we would have gone all the way! Why can't you people believe me!
Why the hell not to expect that? It is probably the time in his carrer when he should play his hardest.
I used to think that McGrady was an genuine ass, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that he's just a well-meaning r****ded man. [1]
Regarding the title of the thread, McGrady can't help but be himself. We learn that every time he opens his big mouth.
I am not that big of fan of Tmac nor do I believe what he says here. But come on guys we all knew he was a diva and a headcase. But at the same time I am sure the reporters ask what does he think the future holds for him. Is it wrong for a guy to be motivated and think high of himself. Sure he is looking for a better contract that he will never get until he actually shows teams he is ready to play. The only dick move he did was not tell the team he was going to have surgery which is pretty obvious he needed. I know his antics got old quick but he is like a spoiled little girl, he is who is. At the same time most of the players, reporters, and coaches seem to like coaching him.
First he was talking about his love for Baseball. Then he was talking about returning to All-Star form next year. MCGRADY IS GOING ON THE ROIDS!!!!!!!!!
On what basis? Is there any information that links to the words coming out of McGrady's mouth? I know he worked out with Tim Grover in Chicago when granted a leave from the team before the trade deadline, but after his trade he stayed with his new team and practiced with them, it's not that one-on-one special training, no pressure? Seems like he feels so confident in his knee despite periodic pain? I felt a little pathetic for him.
Just a FYI, that quote has been posted a million times on this board by DD and others. We all know what insanity means.
