I don't know. I'd prefer to just make jokes b/c this isn't the D&D, but ... I can totally see how it might be upsetting to hear two fairly well-connected white people in the business claim that a Black person getting a desired gig was mostly about Diversity and not mainly about the Black person's skills. That stinks, and to some people, that's what "systemic" means -- that convos like that happen all the time without people batting an eye. Even a lot of people here are all like, "it's probably true" or similar.

Rachel has a good point if she has it "in writing" that she gets to work the finals. But absent that, maybe her coworker is just better or tests better with audiences or has a better voice or is on a cap-friendly contract. I will bet you one thing though: BSPN makes broadcast decisions to maximize profits. Or they damned well better. You can say, "oh they're all about being woke," and if they are, that too is because they see it in their business interests. Nothing else.

Disclaimer: I don't really know either of these people b/c I literally never watch ESPN. I do go to their main news site from time to time, but even then I avoid videos other than highlights. I've heard all of y'all complain about Rachel for like years though in terms of being annoying.

 

Sounds like Rachel needs to learn that privilege isn't merely an advantage. It's also the absence of obstacles.

 

Let them box for it, or hell in a cell loser leaves.

So someone is complaining in a private conversation with a friend, that they got their contract job stolen from a new coworker that hadn't paid their dues because of unfair criteria.

Why is it newsworthy?
I dislike Nichols but it is absurd to cancel her due to this.

 

Rachel was all for diversity when it was happening around her, not so much when it is happening to her

 

There is also the fact that Maria is awesome -- I don't have a problem with Rachel but she isn't on the same level IMO.

The Finn/Rey relationship definitely should have happened. It was going in that direction and it was good, but then they abandoned it for no good reason.

Pretty much agree with you and optically it could look better but I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She was venting in a private conversation. Maybe she really feels that way. Maybe it’s her way of personally dealing with losing a job to a more qualified candidate and that’s the only thing she could grasp at. I disagree with her and she’s probably completely wrong but it’s not a particularly malicious comment. “Black women shouldn’t get this job over white women” would be a different conversation lol.

She should be able to apologize and remain employed.

I’ll also add that I basically haven’t watched ESPN since Fiers came out so I don’t know who the other woman is. Nichols always sucked from her Harden coverage. I assume she’s the same.
