the skeptics assume the worst, but its only one bad apple (hopefully). basketball is absolutely the most subjective game to referee. i have reffed jr high and high school games for years and i can tell you there is a wide margin of error, and high potential for favoritism. if dishonest referees qualify for the highest positions, its bad news for the game. REFEREES CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE SCORE. that being said, who gives a **** it could only be one loneshark
JVG was right all along!!! People should have believed him but instead they fine him 100 Grand. Kudos to JVG for calling conspiracy a loooong time ago.
Here is an interesting except about descpancies in foul calls. This is crazy. ---------------------------------- http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b.../07/21/2007-07-21_foul_smell_at_garden-4.html The games Donaghy allegedly gambled on have not been revealed. Last season, he was assigned to three Knicks games, including two at Madison Square Garden. Coincidentally, both games in New York were marked by an inordinate number of free throws. His final Knicks game on April 15 in Toronto, was won by the Raptors. On Feb.26, Donaghy, Derrick Stafford and Gary Zielinski were assigned to the Knicks' 99-93 victory over the Miami Heat, which was playing without Dwyane Wade. That night, the Knicks attempted 39 free throws compared to eight for Miami. The Knicks were favored by three. Three months earlier, Donaghy was at the center of a bizarre game between the Knicks and Chicago Bulls, one remembered for Chicago coach Scott Skiles benching Ben Wallace for wearing a headband. Working alongside Eli Roe and veteran official Joey Crawford, Donaghy ejected Skiles 57 seconds into the second half. At the time, Chicago was leading by 24 points. Afterward, Skiles said he deserved the second technical foul, but not the first one Donaghy handed out. But when Steve Francis shot both technical free throws, it began a parade to the foul line for the Knicks. Over a span of four minutes and 34 seconds, the Knicks attempted 18 free throws, an unusually high amount for a team at the start of a quarter. Despite the frantic rally, the Knicks eventually fell short, losing 106-95. Chicago was favored by three.
Officiating in the NBA are generally so bad anyways that it's hard to tell if there's anything like this going on.
This has the potential to be one of the biggest scandals in sports history. Imagine the media going back, watching tapes of games he officiated, and seeing how many games he potentially affected. Of course it may be nearly impossible to pin down what phantom calls he did/did not make since officiated is already hard enough as it is.
Nash: WTF are you doing?!? Bell: You're on our side, REMEMBER?!? Donaghy: Don't worry, I'm throwing them off our trail.
