Well, to be honest, I don't trust their early reports. They like to sensationalize and then reel it in later and say "Sorry, we were misinformed... it's actually..." They also love to speculate wildly about things like that car on fire outside of the airport or the NASA incident and then sort the facts from the fiction later.

    Drives me crazy.

ESPN are reporting that hopefully he will turn himself in to authorities by next week. I hope they interrogate him hard and squeeze all that info out. This is better than drama tv!

The investigation reportedly has focused on whether the ref, whom multiple sources have told ESPN.com is 13-year veteran Tim Donaghy, made calls that affected point spreads.

Lol, Mavs forum posters are saying it's not the right guy since he wasn't in the 2006 Finals....they're saying more names will come out.

Hmmm... time to research the games he officiated the last couple of seasons, and see how those games ended in regards to the spread, and what calls he made, particularly 4th qtr. I imagine several writers are doing reasearch on that right now.

The thing is, he could bet for or against the spread in any number of ways, no? So you would need to know which way he bet on the spread to see if his playcalling affected that.

On the other hand, if the mob is involved, he had to have done some calling to affect the outcome. They probably paid him on the side to insure the outcome of a game, and then bet with certainty on the spread of that game.

If he bet on games he didn't officiate, that's bad. If he bet on games he officiated, that's horrible. If he used his position as official to assist the mob in gambling... bad bad bad.

Personally, I don't mind this, becase officiating has been really bad for a while now and I want to see more scrutiny and accountability. Stern is obsessed about the perception of the league and has gone to extreme measures to counter negative publicity and perceptions. I'll be very curious to see what he says and does in this case.

f0082 was saying it wasn't a believable story because it was from NY Post. It has gone beyond that. Nobody is telling you to believe anything across110thstreet. It's your right and I support you. :)

I wondered the same thing. He wasn't in games 1,2,4,5,6,7, but the stats page for game 3 is "not found" oddly enough. Wonder if anyone elses pages are "not found" right now.

    thank you for your blessing...

I am giving credit to the NY Post for reporting this story first, for breaking the news, for landing the scoop...

all articles on yahoo or fox or the AP all give the NY Post for breaking this important news story, which obviously has a lot of merit...

2006-2007 Playoff games reffed by Donaghy.

    Game 3: MAVERICKS 91 @ WARRIORS 109
    Game 4: SUNS 113 @ LAKERS 100
    Game 6: RAPTORS 97 @ NETS 98
    Game 2: MAGIC 90 @ PISTONS 98
    Game 3: SUNS 101 @ SPURS 108

Most of these games wouldn't have made a difference.

There is the game between the Raptors vs Nets that could have been affected.

Did the Raptors lose by 1 pt because of Donaghy?
