    THE RUMBLE

    June 4, 2006 --
    Jordan: Ew not da man

Patrick sags on Air's all-era team
Patrick Ewing can't catch a break with old nemesis Michael Jordan. The Bulls legend, who repeatedly denied the Knick center a ring while capturing six of his own, tells SLAM magazine that Hakeem Olajuwon gets the edge in the pivot on the starting five Dream Team - including himself - from his era.

His Airness selected Magic Johnson at the point and Charles Barkley at power forward. He split small forward between Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen and Larry Bird, and chose UNC teammate James Worthy over Kevin McHale and Karl Malone at the four.

And at center: "I'd go with Olajuwon, that's without a doubt," Jordan said. "I mean, I never saw Jabbar in his prime, and I love Patrick, but I would have to say the versatility of where the game was going, Olajuwon was by far the best at the center position. And even Shaq, he's the dominant center of today, but if you ask him back when he first came in, if he doesn't say Olajuwon, then he's got a little amnesia." The anniversary issue - SLAM's 100th - will be on newsstands later this week.

I'm seeing two power forwards picked here, and I'm getting confused.

I'd say that's a nice clip and save quote from Jordan right there!

That has to be the same interview taken from cigar afficianado a very long time ago because he said that back when. The asked him to pick his own team of players he played with and thats what he came up with. Said he may be a little biased but those are the names he came up with.

Ewing is not in the same league as Hakeem. Why there was even a debate?

Playing in New York adds a 25% hype quotient to a player's abilities. I agree, there is no debate unless you're talking college maybe.

i still hate jordan, but that was a solid quote, especially the amnesia line (though to shaq's credit he has given hakeem credit for outplaying him in the finals).

and yeah, ewing is no where close to hakeem. ewing has to get through robinson before we even start to worry about how he compares with hakeem.
