This kinda reminds me of the Rudy Gay debate except this might be more significant.

If Rubio becomes an elite PG, then Morey was correct in trying.

We do not have a starting 2 guard, we do not have a healthy center and we need to improve our core before we can expect to contend next season.

I think Morey better be playing every option and he DEFINATELY needs to make a move this offseason.

The window on TMac is closing, closing, gone.

The window on Yao is closing.

Next post season is critical in my view. I want us to go for the finals next season.

One more year of injury and wear and tear on Yao doesn't make me feel like we should be looking past next year for a chance at the ring.

I want us to make a major move. The TMac injury really hurts. I think it really took Morey out of his game this season- if TMac had been healthy, confident and strong I think we would have won the Laker series. Even with his mental-moods we would have come together in the playoffs.

When was the last time NYDailyNews's rumor became a fact? I can't think of one.

Many people here don't believe Sina rumors regarding Yao even though those rumors are proved to be true more often than not last couple years, yet they still believe NYDailyNews, Pete Vercey, Sam Smith etc and their rumors that never have been broved to be real.

Tell that to the Spurs and the Magic........

Whatever, the news that Yao may be done makes the Rubio deal make a lot more sense....they are blowing the team up.

Do not make this deal! Are Morey and the Rockets trying to win now? Or are they rebuilding again? Maybe they are thinking they have gotten the most out of Yao and TMac, so they are retooling. The Rockets are going to lose half their defense if they trade away Battier. Dont make this deal Morey, unless you plan on bringing in another starter like Amare Stoudamire who is on the block.

Ok, if the Yao news is true, then that would explain why Morey would break his mold and go for high risk high reward player now, since the risk is no longer losing out on a championship.

That Amare trade and Rubio would like good just about now if Yao is really finished.

I completely agree! The only reason to make this deal if the Rockets organization has decided to rebuild.

My hunch is that the Rockets were interested in Carter but not as much as with Amare primarily because of Yao's injury even through we have Scolandry.

I also feel that NJ probably would have wanted Lee more than Landry, even if he would have been offered to them. It's also possible that DM made an offer which included him along with McGrady plus others but NJ declined interest. I admit I would have been satisfied with Carter,Artest,Shane plus Yao/Scola for the upcoming season.

Yeah, that summarizes the way I feel about it. Our Summer blueprint was/is pretty freaking obvious, so why is Morey ignoring it?

    Vince would have been p.e.r.f.e.c.t.

i really dont understand your man crush over AB. I was rooting for AB to start all season and love love love everything he brings to the team but he is not going to get any better and his stock is not going to get any higher. Morey is doing the right thing by selling him while he still has value. His defensive liabilities were never exposed bc we played against 2 point guards in the playoffs that just so happened to be worse than him which also overstated his offensive output. Had we played billups, deron williams, chris paul, tony parker all point guards bigger than him it would have created even more match up problems both offensively and defensively. AB is earl boykins energy off the bench but not an elite point guard(defensive liability and inconsistent offensively). If Rubio is the real deal why not get what we have never had in years an Elite passing point guard with a defensive mind set. I know what you mean by saying we are solid at point guard when we need help at the wing but when you can upgrade a postion you do it.

Ah, I see, so NBA players never improve after their first 35 games starting.

Crap, why didn't someone tell me that players are never going to improve.

I could have saved all this time typing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this brilliant and logical post. There seems to be so much crap thrown around this board sometimes and things can get quite a bit conviluted. Add to that some's penchant for wallowing in the mud and slinging it about all to make up for something lacking in their life. The 'banter' just becomes so disheartening at times. Why bother?

Then brightness shines through the clouds with your calm and measured response. Brilliant!

From this moment forward, whenever there is a post that reeks of mud and whatnot, I shall simply reply, "I don't have time to 'cabbage' you right now. So, please check to see that you are using sound logic and whatnot.
    Good Day.

That Spanish team isn't THAT stacked. In NBA terms, you could easily afford to have all those guys on one team without going over the cap - there is only one All Star in that bunch.

...I don't get why everyone is down on Rubio's size. He's not short for a PG and though he is slight of frame, he's still bigger than Aaron Brooks. Besides, most players add a little size to their frame as they get older - obviously guys like KG and Kobe added A LOT to their frame despite their equally slight frames as 18yrs old. Brooks is shorter than 6ft so the frame to add to isn't as big, but I don't think it's unreasonable to think Rubio would be over 200 lbs in a year or two. I also think to a degree he can work on a respectable shot. Jason Kidd only recently became a decent shooter despite being a premier PG through his career...besides if Ronnie Brewer can shoot over 50% with a broken arm that never set right, Rubio can learn to be a decent shooter with his height at PG.

The only knock I see on Rubio from a Rockets perspective is he still may be a few years away from truly helping us which doesn't fit into Yao's window...but if you believe he is a franchise quality player, than it's still worth the risk because let's face it - "value" guy Darryl Morey is never going to be the GM who outbids every other team for a franchise quality free agent. The only way Morey is going to come up with a transcendent franchise player is via draft/unproven young prospects like Rubio or by trading for an over the hill franchise player on a team "blowing it all up".

Rubio is a very young player that needs time to progress and become a good player in the NBA... but giving BATTIER for him is JUST REDICILIOUS!!!!!!!!!! you got to be kidding me.. if this is true then something really is wrong, Battier is a veteran and a player that every team needs specialy the Rockets with their history of injuries!, I just cant understand it.. Brooks had his first taste of succses last year in the playoffs and how would the rockets react? they offer him for rubio! unexplainable really

considering they just traded mike miller and randy foye for the pick to get rubio, accepting the rockets deal is just moving backwards.

you seriously think AB is gonna give us more than he gave us this season if he was at least 6'2 i dont mind but hes to much of a defensive liability which you fail to realize. As a back up i love him as are starting point guard hes ok but nothing special but you treat him as if hes a top 10 point guard which he isnt. AB = super bench player lets not overstate him after an inconsistent playoffs.
