@CCorn: I just wouldn't want bird turd and all his damn ink bleeding all over the home jerseys. Houston is a pretty conservative town, and with that in mind management tends to sign pretty clean cut guys. Good for business. I'm shocked Courtney lee made it onto the team with all those tars. Noth that I have anything against (visible) tats (hell I'm a democrat), but I do have an MBA and own a small business. I wouldn't hire someone with "cool" tattooed on their forehead if I was trying to sell my product to a certain group of people. Just sayin.

But hell that said, part of me don't give a d@mn if it's Dennis Rodnan out there in drag. I'd give anything for a rebound right about now cuz lord knows we need it!

What is it with this contract year talk? You guys act like Zach Randolph came out of nowhere to average a double-double.

    We need a defensive center.

Beyond that, we need to take a hard look at anybody that we can get in a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 that upgrades a position, and who can preferably play defense. Our defense must improve.

Also, Zach Randolph lessens the need for a center, meaning we can settle for one (or two) at the bottom of the barrel.

I'm a big Randolph fan and have been one for quite some time. But lets be real here the problem in Houston is we don't have a defensive Center. Randolph doesn't solve that. Trading Randolph and Scola would be almost a neutral move although Randolph is younger than him. I wouldn't complain if we got him but nothing will be solved in Houston until we address the Center position.

The Grizzlies have a better squad than the Rockets right now and they still are a borderline playoff team.

If we go for Nene we have to take Harington or Birdman though and out of the two atleast Birdman gives us a big body in the paint.

Lateral move that would shed our longterm obligations to Luis. Perhaps giving us more flexibility.

But has he ever played with a winning team? Come on, the Clippers, the Knicks, the Grizzles? He filled in great for Rasheed Wallace on the Blazers before they became the jailblazers in the early 2000s. I say give him a chance!!!

But you're missing the point I was trying to make earlier: so what if our main need is a defensive center? I don't think acquiring Randolph would cost us significant assets (Scola/Battier/Jeffries in my hypothetical). We'd still be able to try to trade for a center using our other assets.

I don't believe a Z. Randolph pursuit would hinder our chances at signing a defensive center. And I do believe that Randolph + Def. Center would be a lot better than Scola + Def. Center.

Neither guy is leaving his present place. It is naive, or ignorant, to believe 'picking up' Perk or Jordan.

Thanks man, I wanted to try and find a way to get NY Billups also but it's just not happening ha they don't have enough assets. I don't think Memphis will trade Randolph this season though IF they are getting into the playoffs they'd probably just keep the team intact and let him leave via free agency.

What could we possibly give them for Zac Randolph? To me giving them Scola kind of is a lateral move. Zac may be slightly better I admit. Value for player though I think they would rather have Scola also? I think if we kept scola this would be good news. Then again? I dont know. Gonna stay out of any Rockets moves until something gets done.

My concerns about Randolph range the spectrum - on the court, off the court, and the capspace his new contract would eat up. Most of it's been covered in this thread.

On the court he DOES rebound like a madman and is a presence offensively in the post. That said for all his undeniable talent Zach's a ballstopper who has excelled individually on weaker teams. Unlike Shane, whose value increases the better the team is, Randolph actually takes away from the sum total because of his inability or refusal to play team ball.

Yes, Dude has a long history on/off the court. And while it's true he's been kicking butt and taking names of late.....I'm not ready to give him big money. The risk - reward ratio is way out of whack. Zach can smell the cash and is motivated presently/on his best behavior. But that can and probably will turn after the cheese hits.....How many times have we seen it? Randolph is a high flight risk.

Again, there is too much risk in giving him a chance.

This is just a total misconception. I'm just so bewildered at suggestions that this and that guy is "too self-centered"..too "stats-padding"..I mean so every guy on a non-top 4 playoff team is supposed to be all meaningless stat-padding? Get real man, LeBron is supposed to be stat-padding? Look what Cleveland what after he left.

    Z-BO is a legit all-star.

I'd clear capspace just to sign him this summer.
