did u guys not read that aricle at all? Curry and Francis don't share the same on-court chemistry. In fact, Francis is known for dribbling incessantly rather than moving the ball. He blamed himself for Wednesday's loss after committing seven turnovers, including four in the final period. Thomas clearly was frustrated by Francis' poor decision-making, shouting at him at one point to "shoot the ball." It was a public display of emotion that Thomas rarely shows toward any of his players. thats all i need to hear. francis is still a ballhog and would disrupt our chemistry if he came. he wouldnt pass to yao and would probably be jealous of t-mac. rafer is a better pure point guard and better fit for us. NO to francis.
BTW, i forgot some of steves comments after he left here and im having a hard time finding them. anyone got some quotes/links handy?
Please just say it one time...that VSpan is better than Rafer...I've seen your VSpan love and while I dont dislike the guy in no way shape or form do I believe he's better than Rafer so that would make him lower than your dog's dirty ass as well....shocking to hear that about your boy
i agree, there is no proper position for him now,his SPG is not good, and so is Asits.by the way,rox can not afford him
I don't remember too much except this line after a Rockets-Magic game the first year he was traded: "We played their game," Francis said. "Not degrading their system, but that's how they are and they do it well. They play methodical, slow. If people don't want to play the way that they play, they'll just get traded like me."
He could be effective off the bench. If he gets a case of the dribbles, back on the bench. If he's playing well, he would likely start some games since he offers a new option/capability for matching up w/ some teams. Sometimes you need to take a little gamble. With Phoenix bringing Barbosa off the bench we need a little more punch at the 6.
I watched a couple of knick games early in the season. I thought francis and curry had pretty good chemistry, better than curry and marbury.
no francis...they play undercontrol. its a novel concept. I do find it funny that when francis left jvg sure did start yelling at his team to run
True that. I would be OK with having Stevie here next year. The thing is as many know he's really more of a combo 1/2....which we definitely need. That said,I don't want to see that meaningless dribblearama ever again.
That's not even an area of question. McGrady and Yao are this team's primary scorers, and that's not going to change anytime soon. If Francis returns, he will be a role-player, and likley would occupy the role that Wells was originally intended to fill.
I think that if he came back, he would have to be willing to sign for LLE or vet's minimum and be the sixth man, then the Rockets would look for a PG with the MLE to replace Alston. I don't think he's the right starting PG for the Rockets, although he could be for many teams.
I look at Francis like Jerry Stackhouse - not good enough to carry a team, but a weapon off the bench. It's clear he doesn't fit in NY with three other PGs who basically have the same skill set already there. He'd be great as our backup PG and would get time at SG when other teams go small (like the Suns).
Yall do realize he is playing with the Knicks right? That team doesn't exactly have a roster filled with great talent or great personalities. Steve lost them that game, but he also won them a game with a buzzer beating three against the Knicks. All people remember about Francis in Houston was his over dribbling and turnovers. People seem to forget that he was a vocal leader out there. He also played his hardest every game with us. He damn near lead us to an upset over the "Hall of Fame" Lakers, playing with the likes of Maurice Taylor, Moochie, Pooh bear Wheaterspoon, Eric Piakowski, Mark Jackson and Boki Nachbar. With the team we have now, there is no real leader out there. T-Mac and Yao are quiet guys, so they are more of lead-by-example type leaders. We have no vocal leader out there that can fire up their teammates and bench. Stevie is that guy. Who can forget how Steve took Yao under his wing and treated him like a big brother. Say what you want about him, but give Steve credit for making Yao's transition to America that much easier and being a great teammate for the time he was here. Only bad note he left was that Superbowl Incident. I'm actually going to take Steve's word that he missed the plane.
Come on - It's not like we would spend more than the vet minimum to get him I hope. Dude can finish-for a bargain this would be nice. He would come in offthe bench as a 6th or 7th man-not compete for starter's minutes. If Steve cannot live with coming of the bench we should pass....... Low risk - good reward -No chemistry issues here-dude would be a role player only
Steve is better than anyone else in the back court coming off the bench-dude will not get major minutes or compete with starters minutes I'm sure Steve would be flexible
I'm just not crazy about his basketball IQ at all. JVG has a rule against knuckleheads, and he is the prototypical knucklehead. Dribble-diarrhea aside, I just don't think he would blend well with this team. I don't see him deferring to the leaders on the team, and he would likely try to be the 'man' too much. As bad as Rafer shoots sometimes, at least he knows his role. I don't see SF knowing or accepting his role.
Excellent post- spot on! Dude couldreally be a spark plug off the bench. Talk about break a defense down with surprises!
Doesn't Francis have a Super Bowl he needs to attend? No thanks. He was given more than enough opportunities to change his ways.
I remember when we made this trade how some of the fans were screaming that we gave up too much for T-Mac. On June 29, 2004, Francis, the formerly nicknamed "Stevie Franchise" (self-described "Steve-O") was traded to the Orlando Magic along with Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato in a seven-player deal that sent Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyronn Lue, and Reece Gaines to Houston. OMG if someone back then would have told you guys that Steve Francis would be in the same backcourt as T-MAC, you guys would have been telling me that I was on crack. The tandem of these three guys has the potential to be electric! T-Mac, Yao, Francis! We got shooters now to open up the floor. What we don't have is a guy who can create off the dribble when the floor has been spaced out. We cannot always live and die by the three. We need a guy to drive the lane. Right now that's T-Mac who only does it sporadically, and V-Span who's butt seems permanently glued to the bench. Francis could be that guy. The guy who drives to the hole and creates his own shot. What would we do with Alston? I'd say we keep Alston and let him run the point. You could actually run a three guard offense at times...hmm now that would be interesting Alston/Francis/T-Mac/Howard/Yao. Or go small ball and take Yao out and run Battier/Howard/Francis/T-Mac/Alston. Francis would give you lot of options. You could have Francis coming in as the 6th man for instant offense. Something the Rockets are seriously in need of. Who right now on the Rockets squad can you depend on to spark the team? Bonzi could have been that guy but JVG has him in the doghouse.
